Elias Dayton was slumped awkwardly on the floor, his stomach pressing against his belt, deep wrinkles forming at the knees of his dress pants.
Sienna Sterling looked down at him.
Half a minute ago, he had been leaning back in his chair with his legs crossed, tapping his fingers against the armrest like a lord interrogating a peasant.
His attitude had shifted from arrogant mockery to desperate pleading in less than twenty minutes.
"Dr. Sterling, Dr. Sterling, I'm begging you... I have a whole family to support. I can't afford to lose this job. Everything I did before was wrong, and I apologize."
He reached out, trying to grab her pant leg.
Sienna took a step to the side, leaving Elias's hands grasping at empty air.
A few hospital executives had already retreated into the corners, terrified of being implicated.
Sienna didn't believe she possessed the power to make him grovel.
She was acutely aware that none of this respect was meant for her.
It was all for Silas Hayes.
She lifted her gaze to Silas.
He stood quietly by the door, yet his presence was as immovable as a mountain.
He hadn't done anything or spoken a single word the entire time.
But his mere presence carried an overwhelming weight.
Sienna could clearly see that even the gray-haired President Alistair Goring looked at Silas with blatant flattery.
She marveled at how immense Silas's influence truly was.
Yet, with all that power at his disposal, he was using it just to help her retrieve her personnel files.
Wasn't this like using a nuclear missile to kill a mosquito?
It was completely unbelievable.
Sienna felt incredibly flattered, unsure of how she could ever repay Silas for prioritizing her like this.
Director Marcus Lowman from Human Resources jogged into the room. He was half-bowed, holding out the documents as if presenting a diplomatic treaty.
"Dr. Sterling, your files have been safely kept with us. Everything is perfectly intact. Here you go."
Sienna took them, her fingers gripping the edge of the manila envelope. It all felt surreal.
"Let's go," Silas said, turning around.
