In the car, Felicia stared out the window, tears streaming silently down her face.
Sienna dug some tissues out of her purse and handed them to her.
Felicia took them, glancing at Sienna before breaking into heavier sobs.
Sienna wrapped an arm around her, patting her back gently.
A silent comfort.
"Sienna, can you stay with me tonight? I really need someone to talk to."
Sienna glanced at Silas.
Felicia understood her hesitation.
"Silas, you're not going to say no to this too, are you?"
Silas spoke in a level tone.
"If Sienna is willing, I don't mind."
Sienna nodded.
"Okay."
She pulled out her phone and texted Noah.
[Not coming home tonight. Don't wait up.]
Noah replied instantly.
[Where are you? Who are you with? Are you safe?]
Sienna typed back a quick response.
[Safe. Stop asking.]
Noah sat on the couch, staring at his screen.
Was his sister with Finn?
He pulled up Finn's contact. Hesitating for a second, he typed out a message.
[Finn, my sister isn't coming home tonight. Is she with you?]
Downstairs at Solstice Heights.
Finn sat in his car, the engine still running.
He stared at the text Noah had just sent: [My sister isn't coming home tonight.]
It felt as though an invisible hand had violently seized his heart.
He tossed his phone onto the passenger seat, his hands resting limply on the steering wheel.
The night breeze brushed against the windshield. The dim, yellowish glow of a streetlight fell over the hood of his car.
He sat in the darkness, staring up at her window.
He yanked the steering wheel and drove toward The Hayes Estate.
The estate was much larger than Sienna had imagined.
"He treats you differently. At the very least, I haven't seen him care this much about a woman in years." She looked up. "He's a good man. As long as you aren't standing against him, he'll treat you well for the rest of your life."
Sienna gripped her cup, offering no response.
"Don't let whatever is going on between Silas and me taint your view of him," Felicia smiled gently. "He thinks ten steps ahead. He has his reasons, and I trust him. He would never hurt me."
Sienna nodded.
"I know."
Being pregnant, Felicia exhausted easily and turned in early.
Sienna returned to her wing, tossing and turning in bed.
Moonlight filtered through the carved window frames, shattering across the floor in shards of silver.
She picked up her phone, subconsciously opening Finn's contact.
Realizing what she was doing, she instantly exited the page.
She slapped her own cheeks lightly. What was she thinking?
Now fully awake, all traces of sleep had vanished.
She decided to get up and take a walk.
The estate was massive. The twisting corridors and endless pathways all looked identical.
Her mind wandered to what Felicia had said, losing herself in thought.
