Finn didn't make a sound.
He barely even dared to breathe, terrified she would hear him.
Sienna stood there for a few more moments before finally turning away.
Finn watched her retreating back through the peephole.
To his shock, she didn't go back to her own apartment. Instead, she stepped right back into the elevator.
Oh crap!
Finn suddenly realized exactly what she was doing.
Moving on pure instinct, he scrambled to double-check that every single light in his apartment was turned off.
Downstairs, Sienna stepped out of the lobby and walked back into the storm, umbrella raised.
She took a few steps back and tipped her head up. Rainwater immediately slid off the umbrella canopy, nearly splashing right into her eyes.
She squinted against the downpour, counting the floors up the side of the building.
She found the windows that belonged to her neighbor's apartment.
They were completely dark.
No one was home!
Sienna stood out in the cold. The rain whipped at her from every direction, completely bypassing the umbrella.
Here she was, standing alone in the freezing rain in the middle of the night, staring up at a stranger's windows.
She suddenly felt incredibly ridiculous, and a little guilty.
What exactly was she thinking? What did she even suspect?
She let out a bitter little laugh and headed back inside.
The next morning.
Sienna opened the door to her office and froze.
Silas was sitting in her chair, casually flipping through a medical journal, looking completely at home.
"Director Hayes, what are you doing here?" Sienna slipped right back into her professional, guarded demeanor.
Silas acted like he didn't even notice. He smiled warmly, walked over, and took her hand as if it were the most natural thing in the world.
Sienna's instinct was to pull away, but she quickly forced herself to remember her current role: she was Silas's girlfriend.
Silas pretended not to notice her hesitation; if anything, his smile grew wider.
His eyes were full of indulgence, looking at her as if she were a little girl throwing a harmless tantrum.
"You took the afternoon off yesterday?"
"Yes. I wasn't feeling well."
