Six days later.
Silas was still waiting for a message from Sienna.
He wore a dark expression every day, leaving the staff at The Hayes Estate walking on eggshells, terrified of catching his wrath.
Caspar had been transferred away again, for reasons unknown.
Henry Hart stayed by Silas's side, hardly daring to breathe.
Maya started acting up again.
"Why hasn't Auntie Sienna called me? Doesn't she miss me? Dad, call her! Tomorrow is my birthday, is she coming?"
Silas handed his phone over.
"You call her."
Sienna had just finished a timed practice exam and was checking her answers.
Over the past week, she had been waking up at five in the morning and going to bed at eleven at night.
Aside from eating, drinking, and bathroom breaks, she spent every single second studying.
To achieve her goal, she pushed herself harder than she ever had during her college entrance exams.
Her phone rang. The name 'Silas Hayes' flashed across the screen.
She hesitated for a second before answering.
Maya's voice came through the speaker, thick with unshed tears.
"Auntie Sienna, I miss you so much. Why won't you come see me?"
Sienna held the phone, a wave of sadness washing over her.
She had originally been ready to become a family with them, but now...
"Tomorrow is my birthday. Will you come, please?"
Maya's voice was filled with sheer hope.
Sienna couldn't understand it herself. The girl wasn't even her own child, so why did her heart soften so easily? Why couldn't she bear to let her down?
Maybe it was because when the little girl called her 'Mom', there was no manipulation in her eyes, just a child's purest affection.
"Okay."
