"If you actually abandoned York, you wouldn't be the man I know," Sienna told him, looking straight into his eyes. "I love you because you're deeply loyal, compassionate, and inherently decent. If you were the type to calculate every risk and weigh every benefit before caring for someone, we never would have made it this far."
Finn's Adam's apple bobbed, his eyes turning slightly red.
He reached out and pulled Sienna tightly into his arms.
Sienna leaned into him quietly for a moment before speaking.
"Let's go check on Felicia."
The door to Felicia's room was wide open.
Inside, Silas and Felicia were deep in conversation.
"Go see York? You need to worry about yourself first!"
"But the boy..."
Finn and Sienna exchanged a look and stepped inside, cutting off the sibling argument.
Felicia was sitting in a wheelchair. The color had returned slightly to her face, but she was still alarmingly thin, looking as frail as a sheet of paper against the chair.
"Felicia, how are you feeling?" Sienna set the fruit basket aside and crouched down to meet her eye level.
Felicia's breathing was noticeably steadier now.
She managed a faint smile.
"I'm fine. My brother is just being overprotective."
She glanced up at Finn.
"You guys are right on time. I want to get out of this room and go see York. Come with me."
Silas stood there, his face dark, saying absolutely nothing.
Felicia looked up at him.
"Silas, do you not even trust Sienna? With her looking out for me, nothing is going to happen."
Silas's eyes flicked to Sienna, his rigid posture softening just a fraction.
"Fine. But don't stay out too long."
When Sienna and Finn wheeled Felicia back to York's room...
York was throwing a massive fit.
It was the worst one yet.
His screams echoed through the door, sharp and raspy, sounding like a wild animal thrashing violently against a cage.
A team of doctors surrounded the bed. A nurse stood nearby holding a tray with a pre-drawn syringe of sedatives.
Grant was standing at the head of the bed. He was sweating bullets, and a distinct, bloody ring of bite marks marked his forearm.
