Felicia's lips parted, her voice choked with emotion.
"What did you just call me?"
York stared directly into her eyes.
"Mom. You finally came. Everyone was so mean. They threw me in the water, but Mom came to save me. Save me!"
Tears instantly cascaded down Felicia's face.
She fought to stand up from the wheelchair.
Sienna immediately stepped in to support her, helping her take two shaky steps forward.
Before the wheelchair even stopped moving, York practically threw himself forward.
His tiny body crashed into Felicia's chest, his arms wrapping in a death grip around her neck like he had finally found his lifeline.
"Mom, take me away. I'm scared. Please."
His muffled, terrified voice against her chest was utterly heart-wrenching.
Felicia sobbed uncontrollably, one arm wrapped tightly around his back, her other hand gently cradling the back of his head.
Her entire body shook violently.
All the devastating grief and emotion from losing her baby in that frozen river—feelings she hadn't yet been able to fully process—finally found an outlet.
York and Felicia held each other, weeping desperately.
In that moment, it was as if they were the only two people left in the room.
Everyone else was walled off by an invisible barrier.
York's childish voice broke through the tears, heartbreakingly clear.
"Mom, the water was so dark. Someone was pulling my feet, and I was going to drown. But you pulled me out."
Felicia tightened her grip, tears streaming down her face.
"You remember..."
Grant watched the scene unfold. His lips parted, but he couldn't find a single word to say.
He couldn't even feel the throbbing pain from the bloody bite mark on his arm.
Maeve stood with her hands at her sides, profoundly moved by the display. She was rarely brought to tears, but right now, her eyes shimmered with emotion.
