Quentin's face quickly clouded with annoyance. "I have work to do. Your examination is over, so get out."
Sterling refused to back down, grinning like a fox. "No way, right? I haven't seen you care this much about anyone in years. Are you seriously in too deep?"
Quentin's gaze turned absolutely freezing, a dangerous aura radiating from him.
Knowing when to quit, Sterling laughed it off, not daring to push his luck.
"Alright, alright, enough about your wife. Let me give you some actual news."
Sterling shifted into a more comfortable position on the sofa, lowering his voice. "Parrish York's little sweetheart, Seraphina Miller, recently submitted a paper. Word has it the paper is brilliant. It's caused quite a stir over at the American Traditional Medicine Society."
"As long as Parrish pulls a few strings behind the scenes, Seraphina's promotion to a full-time physician is essentially guaranteed."
Sterling sighed, shaking his head in sympathy.
"Given their complicated love triangle, your wife is going to have a much harder time surviving at the clinic."
With that, Sterling didn't overstay his welcome. He waved a hand and strolled out of the office.
Quentin leaned back in his chair, his eyes inadvertently falling on the sachet resting next to his mouse.
As he stared at it, the icy glare in his eyes melted into something much softer.
A few weeks ago, she had leaned in so close to check his eyes, and he had completely lost control and snapped at her.
Ever since that day, Bonnie had been strictly professional.
Aside from preparing his daily tea and sachets, she didn't speak a single unnecessary word to him, nor did she make any attempt to get close.
This was exactly the distance he had demanded, yet for some inexplicable reason, he felt a deep, frustrating sense of regret.
He stared at the sachet for a long time.
Seconds later, he suddenly reached for his phone, opened his messages with Bonnie, and sent a text.
[Accompany me to the Vance estate after work. Grandfather misses you.]
...
Meanwhile, at the driving school.
Bonnie had just finished her maneuverability test. As she stepped out of the car, her driving instructor held her scorecard, grinning from ear to ear as he praised her loudly.
"Bonnie, that was incredible! You're the fastest learner I've ever taught! Perfect score!"
"Thank you, sir! Please schedule my road test as soon as possible. I'll definitely make time to practice this weekend."
