Ultimately, Quentin aborted his path to the restroom and walked into the lounge with a darkened expression.
Inside, the elders of the York and Xavier families were all seated.
The moment Tobias York laid eyes on Quentin, his relatively polite demeanor vanished into a dark scowl. He slammed his hand against the table.
"So you finally decided to show up! Anyone else would think the York family didn't even have a son named Quentin anymore!"
Quentin's lips curled into a mocking sneer.
"Do you? I thought that son died twenty years ago."
He took a seat on the sofa, crossing his long legs, his voice devoid of any warmth.
"You!"
Tobias turned livid, his pointing finger trembling with rage.
Seeing the tension about to snap, Parrish quickly poured a cup of tea and slid it over, his voice smooth and placating.
"Dad, Quentin rarely comes back. Today is my engagement party, and Mr. and Mrs. Xavier are here. Please, calm down."
Tobias sucked in a deep breath. Forced to save face in front of Vivian's parents, he choked down his fury and turned his head away with a cold snort.
Sitting nearby, Beatrice Xavier looked at Vivian with a puzzled frown. "Vivian, where is Zachary? Why isn't he here yet?"
Vivian offered a helpless smile. "Mom, he went up to his suite to drop off his luggage. He said he needed to rest for a bit before coming down."
Raymond Xavier sighed. "That boy is getting more unruly by the day. I'll have to deal with him later."
Just then, Helena York, sitting next to Tobias, chimed in with a sickly sweet smile. "Quentin, I heard you brought your wife along today. Why haven't we seen her?"
Quentin leaned back against the sofa, his gaze sweeping lazily over Parrish before speaking in a flat tone.
"I accidentally ruined her makeup, so she's touching it up."
The second those words left his mouth, a heavy silence fell over the lounge.
No one expected Quentin to say something so blatantly intimate in front of the elders.
Tobias's face twisted into an ugly grimace. He ground out through clenched teeth, "You've spent all these years abroad and learned absolutely nothing of value—only how to be totally shameless!"
