Just as their breaths were about to tangle, Bonnie's eyelashes fluttered, and her eyes snapped open.
Their gazes locked.
"What are you doing?"
Her voice was thick with sleep, still slightly dazed.
Quentin froze mid-air, but he didn't pull away. His deep eyes were as dark and unfathomable as a bottomless pool.
"I want to kiss you."
His answer was blunt, his voice low and raspy with tension.
Bonnie's brain instantly short-circuited into full alertness.
Seeing his lips descending again, she planted her hands down, smoothly scrambled backward, and sat straight up on the couch.
Her heart hammered against her ribs. Covering her mouth, she stared at him with pure caution.
"Calm down. There's no one else here, we don't need to put on an act."
Quentin narrowed his eyes, a dangerous, oppressive aura radiating from him.
He planted one hand on the backrest of the sofa behind her, leaning in.
"So?"
Trapped with nowhere to run, Bonnie flushed bright red in panic.
"So you can't treat me like you did today. We need to keep our distance!"
"And if I don't want to?" His voice was dangerously hoarse.
"We signed a contract!" Bonnie panicked, blurting out, "Even if you are my boss, you can't breach the contract! If you... if you're sexually frustrated, I can help you find release, but you can't blur the lines with me like this!"
Quentin stared at her flushed, frantic face and fell silent.
Suddenly, he straightened up, looking down at her from his commanding height.
"Bonnie, I am not your boss," he said slowly, each word carrying immense weight. "I am your husband."
Bonnie sat frozen, but the defensive glare in her eyes didn't waver.
Watching her act like a rabbit fending off a wolf, a profound sense of helplessness washed over Quentin.
