"Then came the time when Quentin's mother fell critically ill."
"There was a mole in my team back then. Someone was bought off and tried to harm Mrs. Vance. To protect her, and to protect my own team, I had no choice but to step down."
"But she still needed a doctor. The first person I thought of was your grandfather."
"It just so happened that his clinic was short on medicinal herbs and he was trying to raise funds, so he took the job. At the time, Mrs. Vance was fading rapidly. My entire team had concluded she wouldn't last another month."
"Yet your grandfather managed to keep her alive using a mild restorative formula, giving her an extra six months of life."
"Those six months were nothing short of a miracle for Quentin and the Vance family."
Bonnie listened quietly, her eyes unwittingly turning red.
It was the first time she had ever heard about her grandfather's past from someone else's perspective. She hadn't realized how brilliant and compassionate he truly was.
The tears finally spilled over, sliding down her fair cheeks.
A clean, elegant hand extended a few tissues toward her.
Bonnie turned her head, meeting Quentin's deep, gentle gaze.
She sniffled, took the tissues, and spoke in a hoarse voice.
"Thank you."
Wiping her tears haphazardly, she turned back to Nathaniel. Her tone was so resolute it bordered on stubborn.
"Mentor, my grandfather was a genuinely good man. With his incredible medical skills, it is absolutely impossible that he committed those crimes."
Nathaniel furrowed his brow, his expression turning solemn.
"Bonnie, what exactly happened back then? Six years ago, by the time I received the news, your grandfather had already passed away. I sent people to investigate, but all they found was concrete proof that your grandfather killed his patients and ended up taking his own life out of guilt."
