The line fell silent once again.
This time, the silence stretched on much longer.
After a long pause, Vivian let out a soft sigh.
"It seems that once trust is broken, everything I do is automatically condemned."
"I don't know what that medication means to you, but I took those five vials directly from Parrish's private residence. If I had to guess, he was probably using them to blackmail you, right? If you agreed to his terms, he'd hand over the medicine."
Bonnie's brow pulled into a tight knot.
These socialites were masters at weaving truth and lies. Nine out of ten sentences they spoke held a hidden hook.
She couldn't trust Vivian completely, but she couldn't dismiss her entirely either.
"If you don't believe me, go ask Parrish. Or better yet, he still has several untouched vials at his place. If you need them, I can bring them all to you."
"That won't be necessary," she flatly refused.
She would never take another vial from Vivian, nor would she ever allow her mother's life to be used as a bargaining chip by these people.
After a brief pause, Bonnie suddenly asked, "Vivian, you have feelings for Quentin, don't you?"
The line was dead silent.
She continued, "If I'm connecting the dots correctly, the only reason Quentin's family rejected the alliance with yours was because of our sudden marriage. Because he rejected you, you had to settle for an alliance with Parrish just to secure your foothold in Harlow City. That's why you hate me. That's why you're jealous of me."
On the other end of the line, Vivian laughed. "You're very clever, but you're only half right."
Bonnie didn't say a word.
Vivian went on, "I admit, I do have feelings for Quentin. I've been chasing him for seven years."
"The summer after I graduated high school, I became his private medical assistant. Through college, my master's, and my Ph.D., I aligned every step of my life with his."
"He's never lacked beautiful women around him, so I learned very early on that a pretty face is useless."
