At the breakfast table, the herbal soup gave off a faint, earthy aroma, wisps of steam curling into the air.
Bonnie kept her head down, taking tiny sips of her porridge, utterly terrified to meet the man's gaze.
The ridiculous, highly charged memories of the morning kept flashing through her mind.
Quentin, on the other hand, acted as if absolutely nothing had happened. He casually set down his spoon and grabbed a napkin to dab at his mouth.
"Didn't you say yesterday you needed to talk to me about something?"
He leaned back in his chair, a gentle warmth lingering in his dark eyes.
She paused, her grip tightening on her spoon.
After a moment of thought, she decided to ask for his help anyway.
"I need you to help me acquire a vial of Vitalis Heart Elixir."
Realizing how abrupt that sounded, she quickly added an explanation.
"I want to send it in for a chemical analysis to verify the exact concentration of its core ingredients."
This directly concerned her mother's life. She couldn't act purely on suspicion.
But since Parrish York had completely bought out all the stock from that specific batch on the market, she couldn't get her hands on it. Quentin was her only option.
He looked at her, his smile gentle. "You don't need to go through all that trouble."
Pulling out his phone, he made a quick call, giving a few low commands before hanging up.
"I'll have the lab results sent to you by this afternoon at the latest," he said, turning back to her.
She was stunned. "This afternoon? For a test like this, the fastest an external lab can turn it around is three days."
He raised a brow, a smirk playing on his lips. "My company has its own state-of-the-art pharmaceutical testing labs. I can push it through our internal priority channels."
She immediately slapped her forehead in frustration. "I should have just come to you in the first place."
The amusement in his eyes deepened. He leaned in slightly, his voice low and teasing.
"Starting to realize the perks of having me as your husband? Next time you run into trouble, come straight to me. Stop trying to shoulder everything alone."
Her face instantly flared with heat.
She ducked her head, pretending to be utterly fascinated by her porridge, deciding silence was her safest bet.
She genuinely hated burdening others.
