Hearing Parrish's sharp, out-of-character tone, Seraphina's stomach plummeted.
Bonnie Hayes and Master Thorne? How could they possibly be connected?
Seraphina knew firsthand how high Master Thorne's standards were and how eccentric his temper could be—he had personally rejected her.
If he had actually accepted Bonnie as a disciple, didn't that mean Bonnie had instantly outranked her?
Worse still, she had spent months manipulating Parrish into believing Bonnie was a dangerous quack who experimented on the elderly.
But if Bonnie was now Master Thorne's protégé, all of those lies would completely fall apart.
Seraphina hurried over, pasting a look of gentle shock on her face.
"Is that true? Isn't Bonnie the granddaughter of that disgraced doctor? Would Master Thorne really ignore all that scandal to take her in?"
The man from the FHA frowned and quickly clarified, "I only said Master Thorne was helping her review her credentials. I never said he took her as a disciple."
The crowd immediately latched onto the correction.
"That makes sense. It was probably just a bad rumor."
"No matter how much he appreciates talent, Master Thorne would never risk his legacy on someone so controversial."
"Especially a descendant of the Hayes family. Everyone in the industry knows how ugly that scandal got."
"We all know how high Master Thorne's standards are. Look at his current disciples—they're all titans in their respective regions now."
"If she can't even get her license without a special review, there's no way she meets his criteria."
Seraphina cast her eyes down, but the knot of anxiety in her chest didn't loosen entirely.
