I Stopped Waiting and Started Loving novel Chapter 64

Then, he turned to Bonnie with a gentle tone. "Let's go, the car is waiting outside."

"Thank you."

Bonnie kept her head down, hugging the book to her chest as she quickly followed Jasper out of the station lobby.

Watching their retreating backs, Parrish stood rooted to the spot, his face horrifyingly dark.

The fury of entirely losing control burned through his chest like a wildfire.

A second later, he yanked out his phone and dialed his assistant.

"Investigate this immediately! I want to know exactly what the relationship is between Vance Global's executive assistant, Jasper Ford, and Bonnie Hayes!"

...

The black sedan cruised smoothly through the cool night air.

Sitting in the backseat, Bonnie stared out at the passing neon lights for a long time before she murmured, "Jasper, thank you so much for tonight. I'm sorry for all the trouble."

Jasper caught her eye in the rearview mirror. Rather than accepting the polite thanks, he asked, "Ms. Hayes, how exactly did you and Mr. York meet?"

Bonnie pressed her lips together, unsure of how to answer.

Seeing her silence, Jasper's frown deepened, and his tone became distinctly more serious.

"Ms. Hayes, I need to warn you. You'd better come clean to Mr. Vance about your history with Mr. York. If you don't, the consequences will be severe."

Bonnie had no idea that Parrish and Quentin were half-brothers, nor did she know anything about their complex, blood-feud family politics.

Hearing Jasper's stern warning, her mind instantly jumped to the wrong conclusion.

She assumed Jasper meant that Quentin was a massive clean freak who absolutely despised anyone with a messy romantic history.

Coupled with the fact that she had just landed herself in the police station, if she didn't come clean now, Quentin would undoubtedly write her off as a massive liability and throw her out.

Even though Quentin had a rotten temper, a vicious mouth, and was generally as cold as an iceberg...

She had to admit that her time at Riverstone Heights had been the most stress-free period she had experienced in years.

She couldn't lose this hard-won job over a liar.

Seeing that he wasn't flying into the furious rage she had anticipated, the rock sitting in Bonnie's throat finally settled back into her stomach.

After dinner, Bonnie efficiently cleaned up the kitchen.

When she dried her hands and walked out, she found that Quentin hadn't returned to the study. Instead, he was sitting on the living room sofa—a rare sight.

His long fingers lazily flipped through a financial magazine. Though his expression was neutral, he exuded an intensely commanding presence.

Bonnie stood frozen in place, her fingers twisting together anxiously.

Was he waiting for her confession?

Jasper's warning from the car still rang in her ears. Bonnie gritted her teeth, realizing she couldn't run from this.

Taking a deep breath, she forced her legs to move toward the sofa.

Stopping just two paces away from Quentin, she spoke up, her nerves getting the better of her.

"Mr. Vance, I... I have something I need to confess to you."
