I Stopped Waiting and Started Loving novel Chapter 67

Seeing the slight shift, Jasper quickly continued, "Ms. Hayes traveled all the way back to her hometown in Brookside County yesterday just to retrieve a medical journal her grandfather left behind. She wanted to see if it contained anything that could help with your eyes."

"But Parrish York had confiscated the book three months ago and given it to Seraphina Miller. Ms. Hayes only broke into Seraphina's apartment to get it back, and Parrish even struck her across the face for it."

When Jasper mentioned the slap, he carefully watched Quentin's reaction.

Sure enough, Quentin's hand, resting at his side, curled into a fist, his knuckles turning white.

"At the police station, Parrish used his authority to pressure her. He told her he'd sign her release papers only if she apologized to Seraphina. But Ms. Hayes chose to stay locked up rather than yield to him."

"She's... incredibly fiercely principled. She's definitely not the type to sell out her bottom line for profit."

Quentin slowly turned around. The fury that had clouded his face seemed to dissipate with Jasper's explanation.

It was replaced by an unfathomable depth in his gaze.

Sensing an opening, Jasper delivered the most crucial piece of information.

"Furthermore, I looked deeper into her relationship with Parrish."

"Even though they came to the city together and lived under the same roof for four years, they... never had a physical relationship."

Quentin raised an eyebrow, his dark eyes cutting a sharp glance at his assistant.

Enduring the heavy scrutiny, Jasper lowered his voice. "When Ms. Hayes saved Parrish five years ago, he was severely injured. Specifically... he suffered trauma in that department. For years, she had been using traditional medicine to try and rehabilitate him."

At those words, the lingering gloom in Quentin's eyes seemed to melt away instantly.

Yet his expression remained icy, revealing nothing of whether he believed it or not.

Just then, the phone in Jasper's pocket buzzed.

He pulled it out. It was a text from Bonnie.

[Jasper, since Mr. Vance wants me gone, when should we head to the lawyer's office to finalize the divorce papers?]

His gaze drifted slowly to a rustic herbal sachet resting on the corner of his desk.

It was strange.

Ever since Bonnie moved into Riverstone Heights, the frequency of his flare-ups had drastically dropped.

Eating the medicated meals she prepared had nearly cured the chronic insomnia that had plagued him for years.

He never lacked professional medical teams or luxury nurses, but none of them possessed her level of care.

Quentin let out a cold scoff.

The woman might have been blind enough to date the man he hated most.

But that was just Parrish being an idiot, throwing away a priceless treasure like it was trash.

He wasn't a fool like Parrish, so why should he follow in his footsteps?
