I Stopped Waiting and Started Loving novel Chapter 66

"Mr. Vance...?"

She stared at him, frozen in place.

Quentin Vance stood up abruptly.

His towering height brought a devastating sense of oppression, casting her entirely in his shadow.

"Don't make me say it twice!"

With a dark expression, he turned on his heel and strode toward the study.

Bang!

The door slammed shut with a heavy thud.

Bonnie Hayes stood in the empty living room, a chill creeping up from the soles of her feet.

Her eyes stung. The tears she had held back all night finally broke free, cascading down her cheeks.

She raised a hand, wiping them away fiercely with the back of her wrist.

But the tears only multiplied, impossible to stop.

Taking a deep breath, she turned and dragged her leaden legs toward her room.

There was really nothing to cry about. Hadn't she been kicked out enough times over the years?

Yet her chest felt as heavy as a waterlogged sponge, the weight of it suffocating her.

She was truly heartbroken.

In the cold sprawl of Harlow City, this apartment was the only place she could get a decent night's sleep.

But in the end, Quentin had personally thrown her out.

And the mastermind behind it all was, once again, Parrish York.

Bonnie's lips curled into a self-deprecating smile.

She couldn't help but wonder—did a mysterious heavyweight like Quentin fear offending Parrish?

It made sense. The York family was at the height of its power in Harlow City. Who would cross their golden boy for the sake of a nobody?

Exhausted, Bonnie collapsed onto the edge of her bed. Looking at the room she had just begun to make her own, an unprecedented wave of despair and helplessness washed over her.

She had lost her job and her home. She was truly out of options.

In that moment, a wildly absurd and deeply detestable thought crossed her mind.

Quentin wasn't angry because he feared the York family or Parrish.

Quite the opposite. In Quentin's eyes, Parrish wasn't even worthy of being an opponent.

But Parrish was the person Quentin despised most in this world.

Quentin loathed even looking at anything Parrish had touched.

Not to mention, the York family—and Parrish specifically—had a heavy hand in the near-death experiences and suffering Quentin had endured overseas all those years.

Now that Bonnie had suddenly appeared bearing the label of 'Parrish's ex,' it was entirely plausible for Quentin to suspect she was a spy planted by him.

Jasper quickly lowered his head, his tone utterly sincere. "Sir, it was my oversight. I was solely focused on finding someone skilled in medicine and therapy. I didn't dig into her personal life, and that is my fault."

"However..."

Jasper swallowed hard, summoning the courage to continue. "I just ran an emergency check on what happened at the police station today, and I think we've completely misunderstood Ms. Hayes."

Quentin remained facing the window, motionless, but Jasper knew he was listening.

"Ms. Hayes had no idea about your history with Parrish. The only reason she clashed with him today was because of you."

Hearing this, Quentin's rigid posture faltered ever so slightly.
