Parrish offered a helpless smile and pulled his arm away. "Stop messing around."
The bright smile on Seraphina's face instantly dimmed.
To the outside world, she was his protégé, the savior he had single-handedly elevated to the top. Everyone assumed they were a couple.
Yet Parrish had never officially confirmed it.
But that was fine.
As long as he viewed her as his savior and kept protecting her.
She was confident that, eventually, she would entirely conquer this man's heart.
She clenched her fists, a gleam of ruthless ambition flashing in her eyes.
...
Riverstone Heights.
Bonnie accompanied Quentin through dinner. After waiting for half an hour to let the food digest, she approached him.
"Mr. Vance, are you available now? I'd like to do a preliminary check-up, if that's okay."
Quentin frowned instinctively, his deep, aloof gaze sweeping over her.
But since he had already decided to let her try, he didn't put up a fight.
"What kind of check-up?" he asked, his voice low.
"I need to check your pulse first." Bonnie smiled, her eyes curving.
She jogged to her bedroom and quickly returned with a simple pulse pillow and her worn, thick ledger clutched to her chest.
Afraid Quentin might find it unhygienic, she carefully placed a clean tissue over the pillow.
"Just rest your hand right here."
Quentin extended his long arm, resting his wrist casually on the tissue.
Taking a seat across from him, Bonnie dropped her smile, her expression shifting into one of utter focus.
She reached out, her fingertips pressing gently against his pulse point.
The moment her warm skin made contact, Quentin's body visibly stiffened.
Unable to hold it back, she let out a quiet, muffled laugh.
Quentin's frown deepened into a lethal scowl.
"What? Is it incurable?" he demanded coldly, a hint of irritation bleeding into his tone.
"No, no," Bonnie quickly opened her eyes and waved her free hand, forcing herself to look serious. "It's just your pulse... it's rapid and aggressive. Extremely restless."
"Your adrenal system is in overdrive, causing excess heat and tension, so..."
Quentin's scowl deepened.
"Speak English," he ordered, cutting off her obscure medical jargon.
Bonnie cleared her throat and looked him dead in the eye. "Basically, your heart is beating too fast, and you're running dangerously hot."
"If you're really that uncomfortable, you should take off your sweater. Keeping it on is just trapping the heat."
Quentin: "..."
He had planned to hit the gym shortly, so underneath his casual loungewear, he was only wearing a tight, black athletic tank top.
