I Stopped Waiting and Started Loving novel Chapter 97

The two stepped out and swapped places.

Sliding into the driver's seat, Bonnie gripped the steering wheel tightly, her palms slick with nervous sweat.

Though she didn't know the exact price of the vehicle, the ultra-luxurious interior told her it was a figure she couldn't afford even if she sold her own soul.

If she scratched or dented it, she would be working for this man for free for the rest of her life.

"Foot on the brake, start the engine, release the parking brake."

Quentin leaned back in the passenger seat, his tone lazy yet laced with the absolute certainty of a commander.

Bonnie swallowed hard and scrambled to follow his instructions.

"Hit the gas. Gently."

Bonnie moved her foot to the accelerator.

Acting as if she were stepping on a landmine, she pressed down a fraction of an inch with the very tip of her toe.

The car let out a low purr and began to glide down the deserted suburban road at a speed barely faster than a crawling turtle.

"Bonnie, are you incubating an egg over there?"

Quentin frowned, a clear mix of impatience and disdain settling over his features.

Bonnie shrank back, not daring to argue.

Whenever headlights appeared in the rearview mirror or approached from the opposite direction, she would instantly slam on the brakes, pull over, and wait for them to pass completely before daring to inch forward again.

She could sense that the man beside her was rapidly reaching the end of his tether.

But Bonnie had never been one to admit defeat.

Provoked by his disdainful look, a deep-seated stubbornness flared up inside her.

It was just driving, right?

Back when her grandfather taught her to identify medicine, she had memorized the shapes and properties of thousands of herbs with a photographic memory.

The steps Quentin had just taught her played back clearly in her mind.

She took a deep breath, gritted her teeth, and pressed her right foot down on the pedal with a bit more force.

The car's speed instantly picked up.

The wind howled past the windows. Bonnie's heart raced, but it was quickly followed by an indescribable sense of exhilaration.

Driving a car was actually quite simple—nowhere near as difficult as she had imagined.
