It matched Gavin's blue polo perfectly.
They arrived at the airport just before his family's flight landed, ready to welcome them.
Gavin held Sophie's hand. The airport air conditioning was blasting, but her palms were still slick with a thin layer of sweat.
It wasn't just the nerves of meeting his parents; that inexplicable wave of panic kept washing over her.
Fortunately, everything went smoothly. They escorted Gavin's family to the hotel without a single hiccup.
Gavin's grandmother, Rosemary, was especially delighted. She sampled Sarah's homemade Mung Bean Shortbread in the car and couldn't stop praising it, marveling at how it melted in her mouth and left a lingering fragrance.
"Your mother is so thoughtful. She even made a sugar-free batch just for me."
"I helped out too! You have no idea how complicated the process is. Sophie's mom started prepping at the crack of dawn and spent the whole day on it. It truly is the thought that counts."
Gavin's parents exchanged a warm smile. Their son was clearly working overtime to score points for his future mother-in-law.
In the elevator, with just the family present, Rosemary patted Sophie's arm as Sophie linked her arm through hers. "Take me to that monastery Gavin mentioned this afternoon. That silly boy doesn't even know he needs to fulfill his vow."
Sophie glanced at Gavin.
"Saint Jude's Monastery," Gavin winked, giving her a hint.
Sophie blushed furiously. She couldn't believe Gavin had even told his family that she had agreed to be his girlfriend at Saint Jude's.
"My grandmother says if a wish comes true, you have to go back and give thanks," Gavin whispered into her ear.
"Your grandmother even prepared the red ribbons for fulfilling the vow. She told us on the plane that after lunch, we all need to freshen up and go with a devout heart."
Gillian Gilmore looked at Gavin with an affectionate, teasing smile. Rosemary tagging along was entirely for his sake.
Graham's eyes also crinkled with amusement. Even though they were pragmatists, they were happy to indulge the old lady's loving heart and devotion to her faith.
Sophie escorted Rosemary back to her room, while Gavin helped his mother push the luggage into his parents' suite.
"You're really something. To get your grandmother's approval, you even brought faith into the mix. I was wondering why she took such a shine to Sophie the moment they met."
"Everything I said was true. I really did make a wish at the monastery, and I really did confess my feelings to her there."
Gillian gave Gavin a side-eye. "You only brought it up because you knew your grandmother is religious. Funny how you never mentioned it to me."
"Mom, don't look at Sophie with that sharp gaze of yours, you'll scare her." Gavin smiled back at his mother.
"Is your girlfriend made of glass or crystal? She can't even handle a single look?"
Gillian was honestly a little annoyed.
Right before bed last night, this kid had called specifically to warn her that Sophie and her mother had a lot of pride. He had explicitly asked her to watch her tone and not act like a CEO lecturing an employee.
"Let me ask you, what exactly is an employee-lecturing attitude? Am I not gentle when I talk to you guys at home?"
