I Walked Away Seven Years Too Late But Right on Time novel Chapter 181

Sophie Sullivan hung up the phone and stood by the window for a long time, the blinding sunlight outside forcing her to squint.

Yet under that glaring light, the shadows only felt heavier and darker.

It was incredibly unfair. Why did some people get to make mistakes, even break the law, and walk away scot-free time and time again?

She recalled her confrontation with Eileen Harper at the coffee shop back in March. Eileen had sneered, "I am a princess, and you are the dirt beneath my shoes. What gives you the right to fight me for Luke Lawrence?"

Eileen was always so fearless and arrogant, likely because she never believed she had to face the consequences of her actions. There was always someone ready to clean up her messes.

And once again, she had won.

Sophie clenched her fists so tightly that a sharp pain shot through her palms.

A suffocating wave of resentment washed over her. Did she have to be the one lying in a hospital bed? Did she have to be critically injured before Eileen would be forced to pay the price?

Sophie ultimately decided to visit Luke. Eleanor Lawrence’s words had been ambiguous, and she needed a definitive answer.

She called Gavin Gilmore to share her decision. "I just want to ask him clearly if he’s firmly standing on Eileen's side."

Gavin hesitated for a second on the line before answering. "Alright. Wait for me after work, and I'll drive you over."

When Sophie appeared at the door of the hospital room, Eleanor greeted her warmly.

"Victoria just left. Did you run into her?"

"I did," Sophie replied, meeting Eleanor's gaze.

Down in the lobby, she had crossed paths with Victoria Harper as the older woman stepped out of the elevator. The vicious glare Victoria shot her made it clear she wanted to tear Sophie apart. Sophie figured her own expression mirrored the exact same sentiment.

They despised each other, both wishing the other would simply vanish from the face of the earth.

"You haven't visited Luke in ages, and now you come running to play the devoted ex? Don't think I don't know what you're scheming. Everyone is trying to smooth things over and keep the peace, but here you are, airing dirty laundry and trying to throw your own half-sister into prison."

"Did she think about me being her sister when she shoved me into traffic? I refuse to believe you all can just twist the truth like this. She broke the law, and she needs to face the legal consequences."

"The law? Luke is still stuck in a hospital bed because he saved you. He can barely eat or sleep. And you? You get a little scrape, and you're out dating and living it up. Now you want to use him as a weapon to destroy the relationship between the Lawrences and the Harpers? Do you really think you can shatter decades of history? Besides, we saved his mother's life. Tuck your true colors away and stop causing trouble."

Victoria had blocked Sophie's path, refusing to let her go up to see Luke.
