I Walked Away Seven Years Too Late But Right on Time novel Chapter 59

The two of them stepped into the elevator, and seeing Sophie's pale expression, Mr. Sinclair asked, "Did you get chewed out? Mr. Lawrence getting sick had absolutely nothing to do with you. His family is probably just anxious, don't take it personally."

"Thank you, Mr. Sinclair," Sophie forced a polite smile, easily brushing it off.

They headed straight to Gwen's room. Gwen had already finished her discharge paperwork and was eagerly waiting for them.

When Gwen saw Mr. Sinclair, she beamed instantly. "Mr. Sinclair, you actually came to visit me? I'm incredibly flattered!"

"We just went to see Mr. Lawrence. Since Sophie mentioned you were being discharged today, I figured we'd swing by to pick you up. You've been staying in the exact same hospital as him, did you not go check on him?"

"Of course I did! I rolled myself right over there in a wheelchair. I was strictly following you and Mr. Baxter's golden rule: treat the client with more patience and devotion than your own boyfriend."

Gwen boasted without an ounce of shame.

"You never listen to me or Mr. Baxter on a normal day. You only went because he's ridiculously handsome."

Before Gwen could argue, Mr. Sinclair cut in sharply. "No matter how handsome he is, don't even think about it. Do you know who his future father-in-law is? The Chairman of Apex Holdings on the East Coast."

Gwen's jaw dropped in a theatrical *Ohhh*, feigning an exaggerated look of sudden realization, while stealing a quick, sideways glance at Sophie.

Sophie's face was completely blank. Her eyelashes were cast downward, refusing to betray even a flicker of emotion.

"If he didn't have that kind of massive backing, do you think Mr. Baxter would be sweating bullets over him? You two better stay sharp and keep them happy. There are massive contracts riding on this down the line."

Gwen nodded like a bobblehead.

Mr. Sinclair chuckled, looking affectionately at both of them. "At your age, stop holding out for some Cinderella fantasy. In the real world, the prince always marries a princess."

Three days after Gwen's release, it was finally time for Luke's discharge.

The miserable task of driving Luke and his entire entourage to the airport predictably fell on Sophie's shoulders.

After Mr. Baxter handed down the order, he noticed the blatant reluctance plastered across Sophie's face.
