I was his allergen she was his cure what if this allergen turns lethal? novel Chapter 69

Chapter 6

After coming home, Michael acted like nothing had happened, as if he didn’t remember a single thing from before.

In fact, he treated me even better than before.

I knew he was trying to lower my guard, so I played along with his little act.

Every day, I had the best soups made for him, with ingredients flown in from abroad.

“Thank goodness it was just a scare. If anything had really happened to you, I wouldn’t know what to do,” I said sweetly.

He wrapped his arms around me.

“I could never leave you.”

Suppressing the wave of nausea, I leaned into his embrace.

During this time, I worked closely with the company’s CFO and uncovered that, over the past two years, Michael had been funneling money into

offshore anonymous accounts.

Disguised as “investments,” the transactions were untouchable-even if the investments failed, no one could hold him accountable.

This scheme allowed him to siphon off tens of millions from the company.

But the account owners were impossible to trace.

My only lead was Michael himself.

So outwardly, I stayed the loving wife.

Inwardly, I was watching his every move.

One day, I made plans to meet Mrs. Taylor for afternoon tea as usual.

But as I drove toward the highway, something felt off.

The steering wheel wouldn’t respond properly, and the brakes weren’t working.

Cars surrounded me on all sides, and just ahead, less than a kilometer away, was the highway entrance.

If I reached it without control of the car, it would be fatal.

Staying calm, I shifted gears and called the highway patrol.

After giving them my exact location and license plate, I carefully maneuvered the car toward the guardrail.

The screech of metal against metal was deafening, but I’d never been more focused.

Finally, the car’s front end crashed into the crash barrier the patrol had set up ahead.

“Ma’am, are you alright?” one officer asked, rushing to my side.

My hands slipped from the steering wheel, every ounce of strength drained from my body.

That’s when I noticed my palms were soaked with sweat, and my fingers trembled uncontrollably.

I shook my head weakly.

“I think someone tampered with my car.

The officer immediately took my claim seriously and had the vehicle towed for inspection.

Sure enough, the brake lines had been cut.

But the dashcam had been disabled, leaving no clues.

I recounted every place I’d parked in the past few days for the investigation.

Given Michael’s recent purchase of a high-value life insurance policy for me, the police naturally suspected him.

But when we returned to our shared home, it was empty.

All my jewelry, valuables, and even the small stash of cash-barely $500-were gone.

The officer gave me a sympathetic look.

“We’ve just been informed that he checked in for an international flight about an hour ago. He’s headed to Switzerland.”

I’d been bracing for this, but it still hit me like a ton of bricks.

He cut my brake lines, and now he’d fled the country.

I asked the officer, “He didn’t leave alone, did he?”
