Chapter 116 Her Friend

Good thing she snapped out of it.

“Yeah. I’m here.”

“Phoebe, I’m really glad you’re with me.”

Finished

“Demi, I’m so, so, so glad you’re here too.” Phoebe hugged her tight and said it straight from the heart.

Demi let out a soft laugh through her tears. The weight on her chest finally let up. “We already burned a few minutes. Let’s get back to work.”

“Yeah. Let’s get to it.”

The next day…

Phoebe went with Demi to the hospital for her prenatal checkup. The doctor said her weight had dropped too much and told her to eat smaller meals more often, even if she had no appetite.

“Demi, it’s only been a few days. How did you lose almost four pounds since your last checkup?”

Outside the hospital, Phoebe’s voice tightened with worry.

Four pounds wasn’t huge, but not small either. People who saw Demi every day hadn’t noticed the difference at all.

Nobody expected her to lose weight during pregnancy. And yet, she had.

“Don’t worry. It’s probably just the nausea. Once that set les, it’ll pass.”

Demi didn’t seem concerned. She knew her own body.

Dropping a few pounds was normal. As long as the baby was fine, she wasn’t worried.

“How am I supposed to not worry?”

Phoebe looked pained. Demi was juggling the takeover of Snow Group, prepping their showcase, and handling her lawsuit with Nevin.

“Demi, maybe we should just call off the showcase-”

“No.”

Before she could finish, Demi shut it down and took her hand. “It’s fine. I’ll eat an extra half portion every meal. I’ll get the weight back.”

Phoebe didn’t look convinced. But she knew Demi. Once she locked onto something, there was no talking her out of it.

“Alright. But you’ve got to eat on time. And snack more po.”

“I will. I promise.”

Chapter 116 Her Friend

“Come on. It’s Saturday. Let me take you shopping.”

Finished

Phoebe looped her arm through Demi’s and glanced at her belly. “I’m the godmother. I’ve got to spoil this kid. And when they’re born, I’m telling them everything came from me.”

Demi smiled and followed her straight to the baby store

“Oh my god, these tiny socks are the cutest things ever!

“Look at this onesie. It’s ridiculously adorable! I’m getting it!

“This one’s just as cute…”

Phoebe let out a sharp inhale. Then another. Then another.

Every corner of the baby store turned her into a total mess. She gushed at everything.

Especially the girly colors. So soft. So pretty.

She had no clue whether Demi was having a boy or a girl, so she went wild. Every outfit, every hat, every pair of shoes-she grabbed both boy and girl versions.

She even bought diapers in both kinds.

Demi said it was too early to buy so much. But that didn’t stop Phoebe.

She ended up clearing out half the store. Demi had to physically drag her out by the arm.

“Baby rocker…

“Baby stroller…”

Every time Phoebe saw another baby store, she dragged Demi inside again.

If she didn’t know what something was, she asked. If it looked useful, she told the staff to wrap it up and send it home.

Demi was amused. Half the stuff was barely useful.

She’d done this before. But Phoebe’s excitement was too genuine to shut down.

As they kept walking, Phoebe spotted a stationery shop and lit up all over again.

“The baby’s have a party at their first birthday. Let’s start picking things out.”

She wasn’t just being silly. She meant every word. She was already thinking about the baby’s future.

That moment hit Demi hard. Her mind jumped to Orion’s first birthday. Her eyes shifted.

“Mom!” A bright voice rang out.

Orion was grinning from ear to ear, surprised by the engounter.

Demi hadn’t expected to run into him there. Her whole body froze.

“Sweetheart, do you want the white one or the black one Actually, let’s just grab both.”

Phoebe walked over without noticing Orion nearby. Even if she had, she wouldn’t have recognized him.

She dangled the two pen-shaped flutes, one black and one white, in front of Demi’s stomach like she expected the baby inside to choose.

The truth was, Demi’s baby was still just an embryo. It was only a little over two months along.

The spark on Orion’s face slowly disappeared. Demi never had time to come home and see him, but she had time to shop for little gifts for the baby growing inside her.
