Chapter 16 The Court Summon

Rhea seemed too focused on Orion to remember the court summons until Nevin asked about it.

With a worried look, she handed the envelope to him, though the joy in her eyes was hard to hide.

She couldn’t believe it. Demi had actually given her such a wonderful surprise.

Just last night, Rhea had confirmed at the hospital that Nevin had no intention of divorcing his wife. She’d gone home sulking, thinking about how to stir things up and push Demi into asking for one herself.

But now? Demi had saved her the trouble and filed for divorce in court.

Perfect!

Even if Nevin refused, the situation was already out of his hands.

Once Demi left, marrying into the family would only be a matter of time.

And with her charm and patience, Rhea was sure Nevin would eventually fall for her.

“Mr. Blackwell…” she asked softly, her tone filled with concern, “did you and Demi have another fight? Why would she want a divorce and go all the way to court?”

Nevin’s gaze darkened as it fell on the envelope. His fingers tightened around it. He couldn’t accept that Demi had truly filed for divorce.

Why would she go that far?

All because Orion like Rhea too much?

But Rhea is the one Demi had personally chosen and trained as her assistant.”

Is Demi jealous because Rhea is too good at her work and winning over Orion’s favor?

After hearing Rhea’s concerned questions, Nevin only grew more certain that Demi was being unreasonable..

Yeah.

What had I done wrong? Why would Demi go as far as suing me for divorce?

“Rhea,” he said finally, his tone low and cold, “go take care of Orion at the hospital today. I’ll double your

pay.”

The veins on his hand stood out as he took the court papers from her.

His face was dark, expression unreadable.

Inside, Rhea was bursting with joy, but she kept up her act, speaking in a trembling, anxious voice. “Mr. Blackwell, please go talk to Demi,” she said, blinking away her fake tears. “There must be some kind of misunderstanding between you two.”

As she spoke, tears rolled perfectly down her cheek.

“Orion’s still so young. How could Demi even think about divorce? Do you know how much that would hurt him?” Rhea’s voice trembled with just the right touch of pity. “What could be so serious that she has to fix it with divorce? Unless she …”

She stopped herself. The word “cheating” hovered at the edge of her tongue, but when she noticed the cold, sharp look in Nevin’s eyes, her heart skipped.

She didn’t dare say it.

Rhea had said enough. A smart man like Nevin would fill in the blanks himself.

Nevin’s face was unreadable now–no anger, no emotion at all.

And that was the most dangerous version of him.

Because when he looked that calm, it meant the real storm was coming.

He gave Rhea one last instruction. “Take care of Orion.” Then he left the villa and got into his car. His jaw was tight as he pulled out his phone. “Joe,” he ordered in a low voice, “find out who Demi hired as her lawyer. Get me their number and send it to me. Now.”

He glanced at the court summons in his hand, his fingers tightening around it.

Until this moment, a part of him still believed Demi was just angry, that she’d cool off and come home. But the court made it real. She truly wanted a divorce.

Joe Ruiz was quick as always.

Nevin had barely driven past the front gate of the villa when his phone buzzed with a message. Wayne’s name appeared on the screen, along with his phone number and full background profile.

Nevin opened the file and stared at the photo for a few seconds. It was the same man laughing and chatting with Demi at that café.
