A few of Demi’s illustrations could fetch over ten million if the timing was right and she found good buyers-for just two or three pieces.
She just hadn’t expected Nevin to try using this to force her to compromise.
What a joke.
Demi immediately pushed it out of her mind, went to her room to wash up, and crashed into bed.
There was so much at the company that she needed to handle and understand.
Buzz, buzz!
Her alarm and countdown reminder went off simultaneously.
Demi got up
and saw the countdown showed four days until the court date.
After washing up, she went downstairs to find Roderick reading the newspaper with his reading glasses.
With Demi taking over the company, he finally had the leisure to enjoy retirement.

“By the
that kid from the Blackwells called me again this morning. He wants to meet. He’s quite bothered by Snow Group refusing to cooperate and wants to ask about it in person.”
Roderick mentioned this just as Demi was heading out.
When she looked back, Roderick had his head buried in the newspaper as if he hadn’t been the one speaking.
“Let’s discuss it after the welcome gala.”
Demi said as she got in her car. If it could bring major profits to the company, she didn’t mind cooperating with Blackwell Group.
She was driving to the office when Orion’s call came through.
“Hello, Mom. You answered
my
call.”
As soon as the call connected, Orion’s cautious voice carried a note of joy.
He thought Demi had forgiven him since she’d answered.

Demi could sense the happiness in his tone, but all she felt for Orion now was the remnant of maternal duty.
“Mom…” Orion detected Demi’s coldness. Holding back tears, he said in a forced tone, “Mom, I got a perfect score on my test. I’ve been studying hard and being good.”
Demi’s tone remained flat. “That’s good.”
She showed no joy or pride in Orion’s achievement, as if she no longer cared about his grades.
Not receiving Demi’s praise, Orion felt hurt and disappointed. “Mom, I told you first about my perfect score. I haven’t even told Dad yet. Won’t you praise me?”
Even when he didn’t get perfect scores, Demi would encourage him with a kiss on the forehead and patiently teach him where he went wrong.
“That’s good. Keep it up.” Demi pressed the clutch.
The light turned green. She could already see Snow Group’s building rising in the distance.
Orion pouted, feeling like Demi was brushing him off. Even her praise wasn’t sincere.
But deep down, he knew that after losing his temper last time, hurting her head, and saying those hurtful things, she definitely hadn’t forgiven him.
Part of Orion thought Demi was being petty, but he didn’t dare to say so. He could only hold his tongue.
Demi waited half a minute. It was almost 8 a.m. She said coolly, “Anything else?”
If not, she’d hang up.
At this moment, Orion mattered less to her than the work in her hands.
“Mom, I have a parent-teacher conference coming up. Can you come?”
Demi had always attended before. The other kids in class envied him for having such a beautiful mother.
Recently, since Demi hadn’t been picking him up or dropping him off, besides Arlo telling everyone his mother had cheated and didn’t want him, the girls in class kept asking why his mother didn’t pick him up anymore.
“I’ll have Nevin attend the parent-teacher conference. Orion, it doesn’t have to be who goes to these things.”
