Rhea got to the office before working hours, only to find the employees buzzing with gossip.
She snapped, “So you won’t start work until the very last second, is that it?”
Immediately, everyone broke up and hurried back to their desks.
Rhea stared at them coldly for a moment, then clicked her heels all the way to her office.
She’d barely slept a wink last night, and she only managed to hide her haggard face with a thick layer of makeup that morning.
As soon as she sat down, she asked her assistant to bring her some coffee, but her phone vibrated before she could even take a sip-it was a text from the front desk receptionist.
“Ms. Dunn, Demi is here.”
Clank!
Startled, Rhea jumped to her feet, shattering her coffee cup on the floor.
She hurried to compose herself and rushed over, just in time to see two young assistants coming out of an office that had been empty for a long time.
“It’s been ages since I’ve seen Ms. Snow. She’s so cool now. I love it.”
“Right? I joined Blackwell Group because I admired Ms. Snow. Who knows how many years it’ll take before I have even half her presence in the workplace!”
The two young women couldn’t hide their admiration for Demi.
As they rounded the corner, they nearly ran into Rhea, whose face was stormy. The two immediately switched gears. “Good morning, Ms. Dunn.”
Rhea’s nails nearly dug into her palms as jealousy twisted her face.
She had worked so hard these past years to build her professional image-so why did Demi show up and instantly outshine her in everyone’s eyes?
Forcing a stiff smile, she nodded.
The two assistants quickly sensed Rhea’s mood and hurried off to work.
In their minds, Rhea was capable, but she was nothing compared to Demi. She was just a shadow of Demi, lacking her spirit and charisma.

“Demi, you’re bac-”
“Get out!”
Rhea pushed the door open, her fake smile freezing as Demi glared at her from the desk.
“Did a few years away from me make you forget to knock before you come in?” Demi’s voice was sharp and mocking.
Rhea’s face darkened.
She hadn’t knocked on purpose.
After a moment’s hesitation, she shut the door and forced herself to knock, her face full of resentment. “Demi, can I come in?”
No reply. Rhea gritted her teeth and knocked again, but still got nothing.
Demi was obviously making things difficult for her.
Click.
The door opened from the inside.
Rhea thought Demi was letting her in, but Demi just walked past her, arms full of folders, not even glancing at her. “Let the CEO’s office team and Project Management Department know— we are having a meeting at 9 p.m.”
Then, she headed straight for the elevator. Rhea seethed in silence.
That tone-just like when she first worked under Demi as her assistant all those years ago.
All the status Rhea had built in the company over the years was wiped out with a few words.
At 9 a.m. sharp, representatives from the CEO’s office and the Project Management Department were all waiting in the conference room.
Even Nevin was there.
Demi scanned the room with a cool, businesslike gaze, showing no hint of personal feeling.
Nevin kept a blank look, appearing to listen to Demi’s report, but his mind wandered. The sight of the confident Demi before him brought back memories of when she’d just started her career.
Back then, they weren’t married, and Orion wasn’t born yet.
