“Alright’ Demi pushed herself up from her desk. The files were full of tight text, and she had to read every single word before she could sign.
She looked steady on the outside, yet her nerves stayedght. She needed full focus to make sure nothing shipped through.
“Ms. Snow, is there anything you want to eat?” Lewis asid.
“No. Demi said.
She shook her head. She planned to eat with Phoebe lager, and she could not show up already full.
At Blackwell Group. Nevin left early. He had waited for emi to call him, but she never did, so he drove straight to Snow Group He wanted to ask her if she had any strange habits.
He wondered what scents she liked.
He had half believed what his staff said. Then he searched it online.
The results Mannes him.
Not long after he parked outside Snow Group, he saw Demi walk out.
She almost never left the company for meals. She usually worked late and grabbed food inside.
He stepped on the gas and followed her.
“Demi”
Demi turned. Surprise flickered across her face when she saw Wayne. “Wow, what a coincidence. Are you here for dinner too?”
“Yes, Wayne said. “A client asked to meet here.”
They met halfway. Wayne asked, “Are you alone, or…”
I’m with Phoebe, Demi said.
Wayne’s eyes shifted. He asked Demi a few questions about how she was doing these days.
They chatted and laughed while they walked toward the restaurant.
Nevin stared at Wayne’s back with cold eyes. He shut his car door with a hard thud. The sound filled the space with sharp force for a moment.
He did not storm over.
It was just dinner between friends.
Still, in Nevin’s mind, Demi meeting Wayne at the restaurant was not random. He believed it had been set
“I will head in first. Let’s meet again when we can,” Wayne said.

They split at the stairs to the second floor. A server led emi to a private room on the third floor.
“Demi, what do you want to eat?” Phoebe asked.
Phoebe was already seated. A glass of wine sat near her and
She knew Demi was pregnant. Demi could not drink.
Only one wine glass sat on the table. While Demi sat down. Phoebe drank almost half the glass.
“Dinner’s on you tonight, Phoebe said
Her checks looked warm. She clearly planned to enjoy herself.
Phoebe, how long have you been here?” Demi asked.
Phoebe looked tipsy enough that Demi wondered if she arrived before sunset.
“Not long.” Phoebe said. “These past few days nearly killed me. I finally get a break tonight. I am drinking for my own sanity”
Demi shook her head with a smile and reached for the tablet to order.
A knock sounded at the door. The server carried in several dishes. Phoebe had already ordered them.
“Eat, Phoebe said. “They are all the things we love.”
As her best friend, Phoebe knew Demi’s taste well. Most dishes were their shared favorites.
They ate while talking about old memories. Then they lked about rising stars in the illustration world and whose talent stood out the most.
The next morning…
After Demi entered her office, she stopped cold. The space looked like a fruit shop mixed with a storage
room
Large and small delivery boxes filled nearly the entire area.
Lewis had stacked the boxes neatly. When he saw Demienter, he wiped the sweat from his forehead. “Ms. Snow, these were all ordered and shipped by Mr. Blackwell.”
He had worked at Snow Group for more than 20 years. This was the first time he had done labor like this.
He had left a three foot wide path to her desk.
Demi’s mouth twitched. She had no idea what Nevin was doing now.
After she sent Lewis out, Demi held back the urge to call Nevin and yell at him.
She grabbed a small box the size of her palm and opened it.
