Even he felt a sharp jolt in his chest. For a brief second be thought his secret actions had been exposed.

“Demi’s mood has been unstable lately. She eats dessert then throws them up not long after.”

Nevin stared at the shopping list Jenna had sent. The list looked dense and overwhelming.

Earlier, be had no patience to read it. Now he saw Demover her mouth and rush to the restroom to throw up again.

He began copying each item into the shopping app, one after another.

Jenna had said emotions could affect the stomach. She said a good mood could ease pregnancy sickness and reduce discomfort.

Nevin searched for each item on the list. He chose the best and most expensive option for each one.

A line of strange symbols filled the screen, showing his disbelief and confusion without words.

Grass scented socks appeared first. Then came a keyboard doll meant for punching. A human shaped pad meant for venting anger at a partner followed.

Nevin was always calm and controlled. His face rarely showed anything extra.

Now has brows pulled together as he read each item. Clear dislike showed on his face.

These things made no sense to him. He could not see how Demi would like any of them.

Before placing the order, Nevin contacted Jenna again.

He even marked the items that looked especially strange to him.

Nevin said. “Are you sure a pregnant woman would like these things?”

He could not understand it.

Demi was pregnant, not turning into an alien.

Jenna typed fast, her fingers moving with secretive speed. She looked like she was holding back a sharp remark. I’m pregnant myself, you dunce. Of course I get it!

Jenna texted, “Mr. Blackwell, pregnancy hormones cause hormone imbalance. That changes tastes and habits. Grass scented socks are just my preference. Other pregnant women may like lemon, durian, or even fart smells. It depends on the person. As for the human shaped stress pad, remember to take some punchable selfies when you give it to her. Doesn’t have to be punchable though. Send her a close up photo of your face. When she feels upset, she can hit the photo a few times. It helps. You cannot actually hit a person after all.”

Nevin nearly froze as he read the message.

He tried to recall Demi’s earlier pregnancy. She never had these issues back then.

Or maybe something had changed.

Nevin could not tell if his staff was too absurd or if he had missed this side of things.

After some thought, he still placed the order at the highest level.

Whether it worked or not, he decided to try first.

As for using his own photo to help Demi vent her anger he felt uncertain.

Nevin raised his phone and pointed it at himself. He frowned at his own image on the screen.

The phone made a crisp shutter sound, sharp and quick as the camera captured his face in silence.

The photo was taken. He would wait for the images to printed and delivered to Demi.

Demi had no idea what Nevin was doing behind her back.

That afternoon, the front desk received a delivery for Demi. They contacted Lewis right away.

Lewis took the package upstairs. He opened it to check for anything dangerous.

Invade were large close up photos, each about the size of a sheet of letter paper. Every photo showed Nevin’s
