Chapter 9 I Don’t Want You Anymore
Finished
The hospital room was cold and quiet. Nevin and his son stood side by side, their faces almost identical- same sharp jawline, same icy stare.
Demi’s chest tightened.
Even now, the thought of divorce made her heart ache like it had been pierced by a thousand tiny needles.
Her silence only made Nevin’s anger worse. He thought she was guilty, that she’d had an affair with the man in those photos.
“Say something!” he shouted. “Who is he? What’s your relationship with him? You ignored my calls and abandoned our son to have coffee with another man?!”
Nevin’s fist tightened until the veins on his hand stood out. His chest heaved with anger.
He had called Demi over and over with no answer. Later, he received an envelope full of photos showing she was seeing another man. Nevin almost lost his mind with rage.
How could she do this?
How dare she?
In the pictures, Demi sat close to a man, their heads nearly touching. The man tapped her forehead playfully.
Demi looked at him with a helpless expression–one Nevin had seen before.
That intimate look made his blood boil. There was no way they were just friends.
“Demi,” his voice dropped low, cold, and dangerous. “You always have something to say. Go ahead. Explain. it. Who is he? How long has this been going on?”
Nevin took slow, deliberate steps toward Demi, his tone dark and his expression cold as stone.
On the hospital bed, Orion’s lips trembled in hurt. His father’s furious face terrified him. He whimpered softly, tears pooling in his eyes.
It was the first time he had ever seen Nevin lose his cool.
Normally, when his dad was mad, he only went quiet. This time, it was different.
Demi’s chest felt heavy with frustration. She took a deep breath, struggling to keep the tears from spilling.
So this was what Nevin thought of me now? Meeting another man for coffee meant I’m cheating on him.
What about him? Spending every day with Rhea, even bringing her home like it was perfectly normal. What is that supposed to mean?
She wanted to ask and shouted it in his face. However, her throat was so tight and dry that no sound came
out.

Nevin’s expression grew darker as he stepped even closer. The anger in his eyes was sharp enough to cut.
The two of them stood there, staring at each other like enemies who had reached the point of no return.
“Orion, are you okay? Did you get hurt?”
Rhea pushed the door open and froze. Nevin and Demi were standing face–to–face, barely an inch apart.
Neither of them moved.
Neither of them backed down.
Orion had been sniffling quietly. The moment he saw Rhea, he burst into full tears. “Boohoo! Rhea, I’m scared!” He sobbed.
Rhea quickly swept her eyes toward Demi. The corner of her lips curved up for just a second before she masked it with concern. She rushed to Orion’s bedside, putting on her best worried face.
Demi, you cheated first. Let’s see if Nevin still wants you now.
Out loud, she spoke softly, pretending to defend Demi. “Mr. Blackwell, no matter what Demi did. I’m sure she had her reasons. Please don’t argue in front of Orion. You’re scaring him.”
Her words made it sound like no matter what happened, she would always take Demi’s side.
Even if Demi had done something wrong, Rhea made it seem understandable and almost forgivable.
But every word dripped with hidden malice. Demi could hear it clear as day.
“Rhea, drop the act!” Demi snapped. “You know exactly what you did!”
Demi didn’t need proof to know Rhea was behind those photos.
What she hadn’t expected was how fast Rhea would move to get rid of her.
“Demi, what are you talking about?” Rhea asked innocently, turning to Nevin with wide, confused eyes.
Demi was done pretending. It was pointless now. She let out a cold laugh. “Fine. You win.”
Rhea could have Nevin.
Actually, she decided to give the father and son to Rhea.
Closing her eyes for a second. Demi steadied herself. She hadn’t planned to reveal this yet, but it didn’t matter anymore.
“You want to know who he is, right?” she said evenly. “Fine. He’s my divorce lawyer.”
For a moment, Nevin’s icy expression cracked. He stared at her as if he hadn’t heard right.
Divorce? She wants to divorce me?

Is she serious? What kind of joke was this?
“The signed papers will be delivered soon,” Demi said calmly. “Just wait for them and sign.”
Without another word, she headed straight to the door.
Before leaving, Demi cast one last cold glance at Rhea, whose eyes flickered with barely contained excitement.
The moment Demi walked out the door, Nevin’s expression darkened.
Divorce? Did she just say divorce?
This is absurd.

Out of all the things he had imagined, it never crossed his mind that Demi would be the one to bring up ending their marriage.
Even when photos of her with another man were shoved in his face, even when jealousy burned through him at the sight, Nevin still hadn’t thought of divorce.
“Mr. Blackwell, are you alright?” Rhea asked softly, hiding her thrill beneath a mask of concern.
All her careful scheming had finally paid off. Demi was the one asking for divorce–just as she’d planned.
She’d thought Demi would cling forever to the title of Mrs. Blackwell, refusing to let go.
But now?
Rhea feigned worry, her voice tender. “I don’t understand; why would Demi want a divorce? You’re such a wonderful man, Mr. Blackwell.”
Halfway through her words, she blushed and lowered her gaze, sneaking a glance at him. “What are you going to do about this?”
“Divorce?” Nevin scoffed.
“Not a chance!”
He paused, voice low and cold. “She’s just talking nonsense.”
He clearly didn’t take Demi’s words seriously.
Rhea’s heart sank a little. The one unwilling to let go wasn’t Demi–it was Nevin.
Then Nevin frowned and asked, “By the way, why are you here during work hours?”
“I–uh…”
Rhea’s face stiffened. Before she could come up with an excuse, Orion piped up from her arms, hugging her neck tightly. “Nobody came to play with me, so I asked Rhea to come.”
Nevin’s eyes darkened slightly. He didn’t say another word.
