The soft click of the door closing echoed in the quiet room
Demi turned and stared at the door. She sat like that for long time. The warm water helped settle her stomach. She got up, poured another glass, and slowly looked around the room.
Old memories surfaced. She shook her head and forced them back down. Then she stood and went to the bedroom.
By the time Nevin returned with the pie, he didn’t see her in the living room. His chest tightened for a second. Then he saw the bedroom door shut.
“Demi?”
He walked over and knocked lightly. No answer.
He tried the doorknob. It was locked from the inside.
Of course it was.
Nevin exhaled and knocked a little harder. ‘Demi, I got the pie. Come have a little before you sleep she
No response. He lingered at the door. “You threw up eater. You’ve got nothing to you out. Now fox worse if you don’t eat something”
