Chapter 151
Harper
When the private jet landed at 10 AM in San Francisco, I was still being ignored.
I even spent the entire night on that massive bed in the jet all alone.
I was right behind Maddox as we got off the jet and he was already on the phone, getting updates on his upcoming meetings for that day.
Not only did his conversation go on and on during the ride, he made sure not to sit too close to me the way he always did.
When we got to his place, it was the same as what had happened in Greece. The chauffeur opened the door for me after opening the one on Maddox’s side.
He was already heading to the front door when I stepped out of the limousine and I didn’t even feel like rushing over so I could catch up. He was only going to ignore me.
Then, I made myself believe that maybe he wanted us to get back home first then talk. I held onto that hope even as I went up to his bedroom to join him there.
I found him in a squatting position by some drawers when I walked in and he didn’t even raise his head or turn in my direction. He was too busy rummaging for something.
I sat on the edge of the bed, right near where he was and he paused for a moment because I’d gotten too close.
Without looking at me, he continued rummaging through that drawer and I squeezed the edge of the mattress hard as I couldn’t take it anymore.
“When is this going to end?” I finally said to him. “You can’t keep doing this to me. Can we just talk about it?”
He paused with a loud sigh of annoyance, still not facing me. “I’m so busy that I do Whenever you’re ready to go back home, you’ll be dropped off.”

And with that, he continued with whatever he was looking for, nodding to himself when he lifted a document It must have been what he was looking for.
Getting off the floor while checking through the document, he said, “I won’t be back until 8 PM. You can stay here until then if you like. ”
At any other time, I would’ve loved the idea of staying at his place, but it wasn’t the same and staying over was only going to make me feel worse.
Getting up from the bed to speak my mind, I said, “I really don’t think that this is fair.”
“Well, look at the time,” he said quickly, looking down at his wristwatch. “I’m already running late”

I parted my lips to complain about his attitude, but I was so hurt by how he’d just ignored what I’d said that nothing came out.
Without even coming too close or raising his head, he walked past me, carried his phone door after he headed out.

I flinched, then froze in place as I understood the meaning behind that loud slam. I was far from making things right.
I walked over to the window and stood over there, waiting for the moment when I would see him get into the limousine.
When I could finally see him, he was already on the phone and just before he got inside, he looked up at the window where I was. I thought I’d see him flash even the smallest smile or wave, but it was a blank stare that I got.
I watched the limousine drive off and when it was out of sight, I slid down the wall with a sigh of defeat.
I huffed as I looked around his bedroom and then, the perfect plan came to mind and I smiled a little. There was no way my plan was going to fail.
He’d already mentioned that he would only return home around 8 PM. That meant I would have to wait until the end of the day to see him again, but I didn’t mind. Until I could set my plan in motion, I decided to go home.
I was dropped off in my driveway by the chauffeur who’d been instructed to wait for me and as soon as I opened the front door, I stopped in my tracks and raised my foot to check what I had just stepped on. It was a
note.
Curious, I picked it up, my eyes narrowing as I read the words on it.
“I came over so we could talk, but you weren’t around. Call me.”
I didn’t think too much of it as I read the phone number because it seemed so unfamili widened when I got to the name at the bottom…Kate.
I looked away as I blinked rapidly, wondering if that was supposed to be some kind of joke.

No matter how I thought about it, I had no business with her. It was for this reason that I decided to ignore it, scrunching it up and throwing it across the living room.
I already had enough to think about, like calling Dean after a quick shower and my plan to make Maddox listen to what I had to say. I wasn’t in the mood for Kate’s games. Whether it was her idea or Tiffany’s, I wasn’t going to let them win.
After taking a quick shower, I sat down on the edge of my bed and dialed Dean’s number. I had made up my mind and knew with all my heart that I wanted this.
It was only less than five seconds when it began to ring and he picked up.

“Harper!” he said with a chuckle of relief.
“That’s me.”

“I was wondering when I would hear from you. For the past few days, I’ve checked my phone several times a day just to see if you’ve called or texted me. I just wanna say that I’m sorry for how I just dropped everything on you like that a few days ago.”
I gave a half smile. “I don’t think there was going to be an easier way of telling me all that. I’ve had time to think about it a lot and even spoke to my aunt. That’s why I decided to call you.”
“Yeah?” His tone sounded hopeful.
“I want to hear the rest of what you had to tell me, so let’s meet up.”
He chuckled with delight. “Really?”
“Yes. I’m ready to listen.”
“Wow! That’s great. There’s only one problem. I left San Francisco, just as I told you last time.”
“I know. I can always come and meet you where you are.”
“I’m currently in Australia and I’m here for the next one week. I’ll pay for your flight tickets. We can meet up this Friday. I should be able to make some time.”
With every word he said, he sounded so enthusiastic that it made me smile. It meant that much to him that I wanted to see him again.
After the call came to an end, I wanted to share that news with Maddox, so I sent him a text. I could tell that he read the message as soon as it was delivered, but he didn’t even reply, making me painfully press my lips together.
I knew that I was wrong, but I could no longer carry the weight of that alone, so I called Ella it, their reactions turning out to be very different.

“Look,” Ella said I know you fucked up when you spoke about Grayson and Tiffany, “but at this point, Maddox is just being petty.”
“I don’t think so,” Zoey added. “Harper did hurt his feelings. I’d be that mad too. If I were him, I wouldn’t talk to you for two weeks!”
“You can’t seriously be taking his side,” Ella said to Zoey. “Hasn’t Harper apologized enough? She’s trying her best to make things right. Just think about this, if he keeps going like this for the whole week, will you still say Harper deserves it?”
