It Doesn’t Matter Anymore novel Chapter 14

Chapter 14

The heavy rain in Miami lasted all night.

The late autumn rain was icy and piercing. Greyson was already soaked to the bone, his old injuries flaring up, and a high fever blurred his vision as his body shivered uncontrollably.

Yet he remained motionless, like a weathered stone statue.

Upstairs, in the bedroom.

In front of the floor-to-ceiling window, Allison stood in her robe, holding a cup of hot milk, quietly watching the figure kneeling in the rain downstairs.

Jerico walked over and embraced her from behind, resting his chin in the hollow of her neck, his warm breath brushing against her ear.

“Feeling soft-hearted?” he asked, a barely noticeable tension in his voice.

Allison took a sip of milk, her gaze as calm as if she were looking at a stray dog caught in the rain.

“No.”

“I was just thinking, if I had been this ruthless back then, maybe none of this would have happened.”

Jerico let out a sigh of relief, kissed the top of her head, and reached out to draw the heavy blackout curtains, completely shutting out the scene outside the window.

“Go to sleep. Tomorrow is a big day.”

Allison turned and nestled into his arms, closing her eyes.

Thunder and rain raged outside the window, yet she slept soundly.

The next morning, the rain had stopped.

Greyson had been kneeling in the rain for a whole day and night.
