Chapter 49
Chapter 49
For a long moment, Serena trembled on the floor. Then she screamed, desperate. “It’s not me! It really isn’t
She thought if she kept denying, she was safe. After all, I was gone, married into the Elliott family.
Aaron didn’t seem to hear. He leaned down and grabbed her throat. She gasped, her face turning purple. He looked murderous
Just then, his assistant rushed in with another tablet. “Sir! Something new!”
He played a video. It showed me sitting alone in the emergency room hallway at Chezino General. My face was pale, my arms covered in
untreated scratches. I clutched my clothes, eyes red with despair.
The next clip showed me with my parents. I was agreeing to marry Joshua in Serena’s place, for a billion dollars and a letter cutting all familie: in the video, my parents showed no care, no hesitation. They weighed the benefits and signed.
Aaron stared at the screen, his heart tightening. The air felt sucked from the room. He’d always thought they were just cold, that they’d warm me in time. Now the truth was clear. They’d never seen me as family. From the start, they’d wanted me gone.
“Ha…” A low, bitter laugh of pain and anger escaped him. His hand loosened. Serena fell, coughing.
The doorbell rang. My parents rushed in. Mrs. Harvey saw Serena and ran to her, glaring at Aaron. “Aaron! How could you hurt her?”
Mr. Harvey spoke sternly. “Mr. Cooke, calm down. Serena is our daughter. You can’t treat her this way.”
Aaron turned slowly, his gaze icy. “Your daughter? Do you know what she’s done? Kidnapping, bribery, framing Louisa at every turn. Every act was cruel and unforgivable!”
Mrs. Harvey waved a hand, forcing a laugh. “Don’t believe it! Serena is sweet and kind. It must be Louisa! She’s always disliked Serena and framed
her!”
“Framed?” Aaron’s voice sharpened, each word a blade. “You’re still protecting her? Still slandering Louisa?”
