It Doesn’t Matter Anymore novel Chapter 73

Chapter 73

Today was the day. The “surprise” I told him to wait for Our fifth anniversary.

Joseph stumbled to the little box. His heart pounded like a wild thing.

“The gift… right. It’s a joke. She’s playing a game.”

His hands shook. He untied the bow, lifted the lid.

No treasure inside. No protective charms. No wolf tooth jewelry.

Just a few sheets of magic contract paper.

The first line burned into his eyes, written in blood-red ink:

[SOUL-SUNDER PACT]

His heart dropped. He saw the signature line. My name. A date from two weeks ago.

“No. This isn’t real.”

With a snarl, he tore the pact to pieces. His eyes burned red. “I won’t sever it! Lois! Come out! This isn’t funny!”

He ran to the study, pulled up the pack’s security feed.

There I was, just hours ago. Dragging my suitcase. Standing in the middle of our living room. I looked around. My face was calm. Just… relief.

I flicked a SIM chip into the toilet. Then I walked out the front door. Didn’t look back.

Right then, he knew what “Goodbye” really meant.

He grabbed his phone. Called every high rank in the pack.

“Old Beta, is Lois with you?”

“Gamma, have you seen my Luna?”

The voices on the other end were different now. Mocking.

“Oh, Joseph. Now you miss your mate? Weren’t you just at the club, bragging about liking sluts?”

“Yeah, brother. You love stray mutts so much, her leaving is what you wanted. Stop the sad act. It’s pathetic.”

“Fuck off!” he screamed. “All of you, fuck off!”

He smashed his phone against the wall. Grabbed his keys, drove to the club.
