Chapter 80
Chapter 80
Three months of this broke him Despair pressed down, heavy.
He locked himself in the Alpha Villa. Drank Bottles piled up Strong, mind bending liquor Trying to drown it
The place stank. Of rot. Of his family’s dying name. Sub-packs were leaving. Like a tree losing leaves
Finally, the Grand Elder couldn’t watch
Bang! The main door broke open. The Elder walked in, leaning on a wolf-skull staff. His Bloodhound Guard behind him
He saw his grandson. A drunk mess. Rage made his fur stand up.
“You fool! For a female, you ruin a thousand years of honor?!” his voice boomed.
Joseph looked up, giggling. “Honor? Without Lois… honor is nothing…”
“Beat him! Beat sense into him!” the Elder ordered.
An executioner stepped up. A silver whip. Soaked in saltwater.
Crack! Crack! Crack!
The sound was awful. White smoke rose from the wounds.
Joseph didn’t fight it. He took it, muttering my name. Until his skin tore. Until he passed out.
In the dark, he dreamed.
Our Mating Ceremony. He knelt, holding the Blood Oath dagger. Happy.
I stood before him. Cold. “Joseph, the bond is cut. Even if you die, I won’t look back.”
“NO!!”
He woke up in a healing pod. Soaked in sweat, Heart pounding.
He fought the tubes. “Lois… I have to find Lois…”
“Stop!” The Elder’s voice filled the doorway. Power radiated from him.
“Grandfather, please… let me go to her…” Joseph sank to his knees, forehead to the floor. A submissive pose
“Find her? She doesn’t want to see you!”
The Elder took a comm crystal. Dialed.
Joseph held his breath.
“Hello, Honorable Elder.” My voice came through. Calm Free.
“Child. Joseph is fading. Half-dead over you. For the family, come see him. One last time.”
Joseph waited. Even my anger was better than silence.
My answer was ice.
Chapter 80
“Honorable Elder, if this is a death notice, mail the obituary I’ll send white flowers
“A meeting? No need I won’t dirty my eyes on him Or breathe his betrayal
Beep Beep The call ended
Joseph collapsed. The light in his eyes went out. Forever
The Elder sighed. Pulled a recording stone from his robe.
“Her last words for you Listen. Then let go.”
My voice played, firm:
‘Joseph, let me go. Let yourself go. The gap between us isn’t miles. It’s the bond you broke. Stop looking. The Lois who thought you were he
mate is dead. You killed her.”
The Elder looked at Joseph, heart turned to ash, and coughed hard. Aged right there.
He grabbed Joseph’s hand. His last strength.
“Joseph. I don’t have long. My dying wish-”
“From today, you do not disturb her. You do not seek her. Be the cold Alpha you are. Hold this pack together!”
“Or my spirit will haunt The Argent Spire and curse you!”
Joseph looked at his grandfather’s old face. The resolve there broke his last defense.
Tears fell. He let out a howl. A lonely, broken sound. It echoed in the empty villa.
He understood. He and Lois were done.
