Chapter 91
Chapter 91
Lavander knew Liora couldn’t speak.
But with her twisted sense of humor, she always loved calling her.
In the beginning, it was because her beloved brother was forced to break up with his true love and marry this mute woman Lavander, feeling sorry for him, called every other day just to hurl insults.
Over time, she stopped scolding Liora as much.
But the calls didn’t stop.
Sometimes she’d rant about how toxic the Chandler family was. Other times she’d complain about the fake heiresses in high society.
Thanks to her, Liora had been force-fed every bit of gossip from the elite circles of NYC, LA, Chicago-you name it.
In the past few months, Lavander got busy with her concert tour.
The calls lessened.
So when one came through today, Liora already knew someone was about to get roasted.
She picked up, purely out of curiosity.
“Liora, are you crying? Did my brother dump you? Just now, two old hags from the Shannon family said he was divorcing you. And that he has an illegitimate child! What the hell is wrong with these Chandlers? Can’t survive without fathering a secret kid? Bastards!” Lavander sobbed uncontrollably, every word soaked with fury.
After finishing her tirade against the Chandler men, she turned on Liora.
“And you! Aren’t you supposed to be tough? You stabbed Jennie in front of the whole family once-now she’s shamelessly sleeping with my brother and even got pregnant with his bastard kid, and you’re just letting it slide? What happened to your backbone, Liora? You’ve been his wife for three years and now you’re just a doormat? Are you his dog or something? Always going along with whatever he wants! I’m so disappointed in you!”
With that explosive shout, Lavander slammed the call shut.
She yelled so loud that Liora’s ears were still ringing.
Rubbing her ears, Liora let out a faint, mocking smile.
Jennie must be really desperate…
She had barely signed the divorce papers, and Jennie was already out there broadcasting the news like it was a press release. Wasn’t she worried about celebrating too soon?
Liora replied to Lavander on WhatsApp:
“Lavander, don’t worry about me. I was the one who asked for the divorce. Your brother treated me poorly, and I never got used to life in New York. I just want to go home.”
The chat box showed Lavander typing.
Liora could already imagine her pacing back and forth, angrily rewriting her reply a dozen times.
She almost drifted off to sleep before Lavander finally messaged back:
My brother’s a blind bastard who doesn’t deserve you. Good riddance. Once the divorce’s final, I’ll find you someone even better! There are tons of rich men out there-I’ll scoop one up for you in no time. Just wait!”
Don’t be fooled by how viciously Lavander was trashing Jennie now.
Back then, Jennie had been her favorite sister-in-law.
Most of Lavander’s hostility toward Liora had been on Jennie’s behalf. Then, something shifted.

Chapter 91
She stopped mentioning Jennie altogether and gradually warmed up to Liora.
Seeing her reply now, Liora smiled and sent back a simple: “Okay.”
Lucas hadn’t slept a wink all night.
He sat alone in his study, carefully reviewing the assets he had allocated to Liora.
Then, he added a few more items.
As dawn broke, Lucas sent the updated financial list to his lawyer, instructing him to include it in the appendix of the original divorce agreement.
Liora’s signed divorce papers sat right there on his desk.
He glanced at them, untouched, then stood and went upstairs.
The bathroom held only his toiletries now as Liora’s endless bottles and jars had all disappeared.
After showering, he checked the walk-in closet. Not a single trace of her remained.
Lucas stood still for a moment.
Then, as if nothing had happened, he got dressed and was about to leave when he finally spotted something.
A wedding ring.
The antique wedding bands they’d worn were a gift from his grandmother.
Now, next to Liora’s ring, sat his matching band.
Liora had no doubt Lucas would handle the divorce quickly.
With Jennie pregnant, he was probably more eager than anyone to clear the way.
At nine in the morning, Liora and Lucas completed all the paperwork.
“Here you go. This is your receipt,” said the clerk. “You’ve got a thirty-day waiting period. Come back on the date listed-if either of you doesn’t show, you’ll have to reapply and wait another thirty days.”
The weather in the capital had been gloomy lately.
But today, the sun was out, bright and warm.
Outside the civil affairs office, Lucas signaled to his lawyer to hand a folder to Liora. “Mr. King will help you with the paperwork to transfer the assets.”
Liora accepted it without hesitation and gave a slight nod.
Lucas looked at her, wanting to say, Don’t regret this.
But the words got stuck in his throat.
Saying that would only make him sound resentful.
Why would he be resentful?
After all, this was what he wanted.
“Where are you staying?” His voice was cold and detached. “When the time comes, I’ll have Johnny pick you up.”
His tone made it clear-he was afraid she wouldn’t show up. That she’d change her mind.
“No need. I’ll come,” Liora replied calmly.
From the moment they met at the civil affairs office to the final signatures, she had remained composed.
Compared to the other couples who werer arguing, crying, unable to even look at each other, Liora looked like a bystander, unaffected by the mess around her.
Chapter 91
Lucas felt a tightness in his chest. His tone grew frostier.
“Then please, Ms. Hughes, set an alarm. Don’t go running off to party and forget the time”
He turned and stormed off.
Liora stood still for a moment, then lowered her gaze and smirked.
So Lucas thought she’d been out partying the past few days?
He might not have eyes everywhere, but finding out where she’d been wouldn’t be hard.
But he hadn’t asked.
Because he didn’t care.
