Chapter 313

Patrick hesitated. “Well…”

“You’re giving her way too much credit,” Evan cut in coldly.

“…Yes, sir.”

It was obvious Evan didn’t take that guess seriously at all.

It wasn’t even about looking down on Stella.

He simply couldn’t believe that a woman who grew up in an orphanage could possibly have any connection to a global giant like the Hogarth Group.

Evan hung up.

He took another drag of his cigarette, then walked toward his car.

After getting in, he didn’t start the engine right away.

Felix’s words kept replaying in his mind.

And only now did it start to sink in-

Why Felix had been so supportive of him getting a divorce.

That incident…

Felix must have known about it long ago.

Even though he dismissed Patrick’s theory, Evan still dialed Stella’s number.

This time, she didn’t pick up.

Once.

Twice.

Three times.

The more she ignored him, the more agitated he became.

At the hospital, the mood wasn’t much better.

That morning, before heading to the auction, Dora had confidently told Summer that she would bring back

a blue diamond as a reward.

A priceless blue diamond.

Who wouldn’t want one?

Summer had wanted one for years, but something that rare was almost impossible to get.

So when Dora promised to buy one for her-

It had been the happiest moment she’d had in a long time.

And now?

Dora had come back empty-handed.

Not just the blue diamond-

She hadn’t even secured the pink one.

Summer’s composure started to crack.

Especially now that the trouble on her mother’s side in the Eirden was almost resolved→

She didn’t feel the need to keep up appearances anymore.

“So what you’re saying,” she said, her tone turning sharp, “is that all my effort was for nothing?”

The moment the words left her mouth, even she didn’t bother softening them.

Dora froze. “Summer, you—”

This was the first time Summer had spoken to her like this.

All these years with Evan’s older brother, she had never once used that tone.

“I went through everything to give birth to those children,” Summer continued, her voice trembling. “And you couldn’t even protect them. One of them is already gone…”

Her voice broke, emotion rising fast.

The moment Dora heard ‘one of them is gone’, her head throbbed.

“And the person responsible doesn’t pay any price,” Summer pressed on. “What did I get in return? I lost my husband. I lost one child. And the other one… who knows if they’ll even survive.”

“That’s not my fault-” Dora started.

“Mom!” Fiona cut in sharply before she could finish.

She shot her a warning look. “That’s enough.”

Dora had already been humiliated at the Felix residence. Now, hearing this, her temper was about to snap again.

Fiona stepped forward and grabbed Dora’s arm, then turned to Summer.

“Don’t worry,” she said quickly. “Mom promised you a reward. She’ll definitely follow through.”

“Do you think I care about a reward?” Summer said coldly. “My mother should be back soon. I just wanted to give it to her…”

She didn’t finish the sentence.

But the implication was clear.

She was bringing up Ruby again.

And just like that, Dora’s anger dropped by half.

That woman was not someone to take lightly.

With Fiona’s subtle urging and Summer’s reminder, Dora’s tone softened.

“Don’t worry,” she said. “You gave the Wright family twins. I won’t shortchange you.”

It was just that—
