Reality crushed Simon’s hopes and slapped him viciously in the face.
He slumped down on the couch dejectedly and started drinking. Bottles of wine filled the floor, and his cheeks turned red from the alcohol. But it could not hide the dead, despair–filled look in his eyes. He drank until he rushed into the bathroom and puked. When he saw how pathetic he looked, he suddenly remembered the day when he had a date with Bertha in the restaurant.
Sho had looked at him and calmly said, “Simon, do you remember what you said on our wedding day?
“You asked me to swear that if you ever made a mistake, I should leave without a word and not give you a chance to apologize because you’d be undeserving of forgiveness.”
So, at that moment, she had already discovered that he was cheating on her with Luna, right?
She had been dropping hints for him a long time ago!
She had given him a chance, but he never treasured it.
Even so, he had always loved her. His heart had always been with her. It was simply his camal desires that made him make a
mistake. She was the only woman he loved!
“Bertha, I made a mistake, but how could you be so cruel…?”
Simon looked at his reflection in the mirror and hated his past self. With a punch, he shattered the mirror.
“You’re the one who got Bertha killed.”
The shards cut into the back of his hand, but he sensed no pain, only endless regret. His blood and tears flowed down through the gaps between his fingers. Sometimes, he managed to compose himself, but at other times, he howled like a monster. After he lost Bertha, he felt like life was a living hell.
When his secretary did not receive any response from Simon, he ran over to the house in a panic. The moment he stepped in, he saw Simon lying on the floor crying, and he was shocked. He had been working with Simon for more than ten years, but he had never seen him so dispirited before, much less
acting in such a manner. It was as if Simon no longer cared about his image. He usually could not even stand it if a tiny corner of his suit was wrinkled, but he was currently lying on the floor, and his shirt was
Once Simon sobered up, he managed to pick himself up. He took a shower and left after he put on a new suit.
An hour later, he showed up in front of Luna’s house. She had just woken up, so when she heard the doorbell ring, she reluctantly went to the door and shouted, “Who is it?! Why are you bothering me so early in the morning?!”
However, the moment she opened the door, she saw a gaunt–looking Simon with a stubble on his chin. All of her drowsiness vanished. She was stunned for a few seconds before she threw herself into his arms in delight. But then, she started acting all sad.
Luna smiled and handed him her phone before she sat beside him. She grabbed his arm and started speaking sweetly. “Why are you in such a hurry to check my phone? Do you want to buy the stuff I have in my cart for me?
“You’re just in ti
In time, then. There’s this new handbag that I want, but it’s not available online. Why don’t we visit a physical store to buy it? It’s been a long time since we had a lunch date together anyway.”
He did not reply at all and just opened her WhatsApp. Then, he switched to her other account. There was only one person on her contact list–Bertha. He checked the chats before throwing her phone on the table and glaring at her.
“I’m giving you one chance to explain yourself.”
Luna had not figured out what had happened yet, but when she saw Simon’s stern gaze, unease filled her heart. She slowly looked at the screen, and when she saw the chat, she froze.
Back when she sent those messages, she had imagined Simon learning about them from Bertha. But when she noticed that Bertha just kept quiet and ignored her, Luna thought that she would never tell Simon anything. She had almost forgotten that she had done it too.
When Simon dug her chat up, she realized that she had underestimated Bertha. That quiet woman had actually shown him all of her chats and even her account information!
