Logan gently brushed her hair aside, trailing soft kisses along her skin with the tip of his nose.

She couldn't quite pinpoint when he had started to like her. From the moment she was by his side, it seemed his duty had been to protect her.

He never let anyone bully her, comforted her when she was upset and cleaned up her messes when she made mistakes.

Gradually, it became natural—he saw her as his, just as she saw him as hers.

"Don't ever run away again," he murmured between kisses, reluctant to even sleep. He was afraid that if he opened his eyes, all of this would turn out to be nothing more than a beautiful, fleeting dream.

But he was exhausted. As a 30-year-old man, this was his first time experiencing something like this. It felt both thrilling and insatiable.

Now, he finally understood why his college roommates used to make crude jokes—though exaggerated, there was some truth to it.

Logan silenced his phone and took care of Lisa's leave of absence. Together, they drifted into a peaceful sleep.

He didn't know how long they slept, but the persistent ringing of the doorbell eventually forced him to wake up. He checked his phone and saw several missed calls, all from Martha.

Logan glanced at the still-sleeping Lisa, kissed her gently, and went outside.

"Martha," he answered the phone.

"It's important. Just open the door, I'll explain," Martha said before hanging up.

Knowing her temperament, he knew he had to let her in.

He slipped back into the bedroom and softly spoke to Lisa, who was still asleep. "Your mom's here. Stay upstairs, okay?"
