"Mr. Logan, why are you suddenly drinking plain water?" Stacy asked as she poured the water.
"It's not for me. It's for Jojo," Logan replied, looking at Lisa, who was busy washing tomatoes with her head down.
Stacy chuckled. "Mr. Logan, your girlfriend is truly beautiful, and she seems so warm and cheerful. Someone like her will surely put your parents at ease."
"You're right. Everyone can be at ease," he said with a hint of implication.
Lisa didn't look up or look at him, but she could tell what he meant.
"Not just that. We're happy too," Stacy added, handing him the glass of water.
"Thank you, Stacy," he said. Then he took the glass and left.
She couldn't help but sigh. "Mr. Alistair and Ms. Nadine have been waiting for this day."
After saying that, she turned back to see Lisa still washing the same tomato she had already cleaned. She turned off the tap and teased, "Ms. Lisa, you're going to wash the skin off that tomato!"
Lisa hummed in response, standing there, unsure of what to do next.
Martha's cheerful laughter filled the air, drifting from the living room as she chatted with Joelle. Lisa didn't bother to listen in on their conversation, because her ears were buzzing. Her mind was preoccupied with thoughts. She felt spaced out, as if her soul had left her body.
"Ms. Lisa." Stacy waved her hand in front of her face to get her attention.
She snapped back to reality. "Yes, Stacy?"
"What's wrong? Are you feeling unwell?" Stacy studied her face closely.
Lisa didn't realize how pale she had become. However, it was obvious to her that Stacy had noticed her behavior was off. She managed a weak smile. "Maybe I'm just tired from performing so many surgeries today."
"You should rest then. It's greasy in here." Stacy shooed her out of the kitchen.
As soon as Lisa stepped out, Martha walked in, still smiling. She blocked Lisa's way. "Where are you going?"
Martha gave her a push. "Go over and keep Jojo company. She must be feeling nervous and out of place."
"She's here with her boyfriend. As long as he's around, there's no need to feel nervous," Lisa retorted.
Martha was taken aback by her response. "What's going on with you today? Are you on your period or something? You're so irritable."
Her comment made Lisa realize that she had been acting out of character.
Yes, why was she acting so strange?
And what was this behavior of hers anyway? If Logan saw her like this, he might think she was jealous.
"Mom, today is all about Uncle Logan and his girlfriend. Could you please show me some respect and not bring up my issues?" She tossed out a quick explanation, and walked toward Logan with a calm demeanor.
She told herself to stay composed and calm, while also trying hard to keep her expression natural.
