Love's Redemption (Chris and Maddie) novel Chapter 971

Under the table, Lisa's foot was kicked by Martha. It was a subtle hint for her to let Joelle win.

"She's only a girlfriend who's not even officially engaged to Logan yet. Look at how they're all fawning over her." Lisa seethed with frustration and resentment. The more they wanted her to throw the game, the more she refused.

The game began. She was having an incredible run. Her hand was almost a perfect set, just one card away from winning. While everyone else struggled with mismatched cards, her win seemed almost certain.

However, the cards she drew next seemed to be cursed, with not a single one matching what she needed. Several times, just as she was about to draw, Joelle would interrupt by claiming a card.

After a few rounds, Martha had already laid her cards down, ready for a winning meld. Lisa's hand was still exactly as it had been when she first picked it up.

Then Nadine completed her set. Shortly after, Joelle announced that she was just one step away from winning.

Now, the other three were ready, but Lisa was still stuck with the same hand. Worse, this pattern kept repeating. She would always start with a promising hand. However, by the end, everyone else would be ready to win, while she was still floundering.

The saying "ruining a good hand of cards" perfectly described her performance at the table.

Finally, Nadine couldn't help but tease, "Liz, what happened to your usual lucky streak? Did Aunt Joelle steal your thunder?"

Martha chimed in, "You don't have to let Aunt Joelle win every time—just throw her a win now and then!"

Lisa was exasperated. She wasn't intentionally letting Joelle win. She just couldn't seem to get a good meld going.

She looked up at Joelle across from her. As a novice, Joelle reminded her of herself when she first started playing, frantically using both hands to arrange her cards.

Yet somehow, Joelle kept winning.

Lisa couldn't help but think of her early days playing Rummy, and how similar she was to her now.

However, as long as Nadine was happy, that was all that mattered. If she was in a good mood, then she wouldn't take the news of Logan's announcement too hard.

The card game continued until 10:00 pm, and everyone was happy except Lisa.

However, she was actually quite pleased. Although she didn't win, she had sabotaged Logan's plans.

"Lisa." As they were leaving, Joelle called out to her. "Can we add each other on WhatsApp?"

She wanted to refuse, but Joelle was going to be her future aunt. Besides, she had already accepted the money as a gesture of acknowledgement. Reluctantly, she took out her phone and prepared to open WhatsApp to display the QR code. Just then, she noticed Logan approaching. His earlier warning in front of the bathroom instantly came to mind.

So, she said, "Aunt Joelle, maybe you should check with Uncle Logan first. I'm not sure if he'd approve of you adding me on WhatsApp."
