I remained silent, unable to say anything in response. Despite what he thought he was alluding to, that didn't make him free of any of the blame.
A part of me did blame Quentin, Askhan and Haelor. If they had taken the initiative back then, I wouldn't have chosen Magnus. Their decision to stay on the side lines lead to things taking the turn that they did now.
Quentin dropped me before the bathroom. I sent him another glance before making my way in and shutting the door behind me.
"Don't move a single step."
I warned, knowing Quentin was one to do as he pleased. He chuckled from behind the door. As he spoke, I could hear his voice was much closer than before now.
The door slowly slid open and he gingerly walked in. There was a desire in his eyes as he watched me.
"I haven't found a mate." He said breathlessly.
I stared at him inquisitively. "And? What does that have to do with anything?"
"You're a single she-wolf with kids. I don't think there's any problems." Quentin took a step closer.
"What problems?" I asked in confusion. "I have no idea what you mean."
He blew out a breath. "I'm saying, it's okay to be intimate."
I stared at him, my eyes narrowing down on instinct. "You're not really going to bathe me, are you?"
He cocked his head to the side, an amused smile playing on his lips. When he took another step closer, I knew he wasn't playing around.
I stepped back. "I'm warning you. You take another step closer and I'll break your nose."
He simply chuckled, before making his way to the tub. He reached out a hand to me and pulled me closer.
With a sly grin on his face, he lowered me into the tub now. I held onto the robe tightly, the only thing that was keeping me from being fully naked before me.
Quentin hooked a finger under my chin, forcing me to look at him. "Done with your little act?"
I frowned. "What act?"
"Not pretending to be vulnerable anymore, are we?" He chuckled. "You still can't turn into a wolf?"
I took a step backward, exclaiming out of fear again. This was all it took for him to close the distance between us.
In the wet bathroom, I was standing before a mirror, wrapped in nothing but my towel with Quentin staring at me with a look of worry in his eyes.
I turned to Quentin, staring at him with innocent doe eyes. He swallowed, watching me carefully while a cloud of something else lingered behind his eyes.
"What's wrong, Thea?" he asked. "I heard you scream."
"I—I don't know." I stuttered, hugging myself while my shoulders trembled lightly.
Quentin's eyes drifted to my exposed shoulders and down to my bare legs. Seconds later, they raised back up to meet mine.
"I feel better now," I admitted. "With you here that is."
"Oh yeah?" His mind seemed to be far away as his eyes remained fixed on my lips.
I inched closer to him, acutely aware of how his scent seemed to have changed. It wasn't hard for me to make sense of the look in his eyes.
