I couldn't help the smile that made its way to my lips. It was still surprising to see so much people who cared about my wellbeing but I was grateful for it nonetheless.
"Thank you, General Haelor."
"Please. Call me Haelor." He corrected me.
"Okay. Thank you, Haelor." I smiled.
"Well, then." Askhan tapped the side of his glass with a small fork. "Let's continue with our banquet, shall we?"
The rest of the banquet went on. The conversations were light-hearted and there was a certain feeling of joy in the air.
By the end of the meeting, I felt happier than I'd ever felt in such a long time. I'd gotten to meet two of my childhood friends.
"I'd like to go for a walk." I whispered to Olavir who was discussing something with Askhan and Haelor.
"Of course. Feel free to do whatever you want." He said with a smile before turning to the men.
I got up from my chair and made my way outside the house. Different servants and maids in the house went about performing their duties.
The villa was a complete sight to see. I could barely take in the beautiful architecture and designs that had gone into making this place. I was still admiring the flowers that lined the pathway when I overheard the conversation of a group of maids.
"I'm just saying. It might be that the call is from inside the house."
"Do you really think she's a prostitute too?"
"Well think about it. Yes, the woman named Ashley was exposed as a prostitute but the thing is, that other woman might be one too. There's no way she'd get beaten on livestream if she wasn't."
I felt extremely angry when I realized what they were talking about. That was such an embarrassing stream!
"Who knows whether this was all some kind of ruse? They might have been working together the entire time just to split the money unevenly. Maybe that was why Ashley decided to livestream her humiliation.
Without thinking, I walked up to them, my hands balled into fists by my sides. They stopped talking as soon as I came up to them.
"You've got it all wrong. That woman wasn't a prostitute. She is a rich girl."
"I beg to differ." One of the maids scoffed. "The one who was beaten deserved what she got. She must have been a whore too if she got such a treatment."
"You're getting it all wrong." I said, my teeth gritted in anger.
He stared at me for a moment before letting out a sigh. "You're too kind."
He turned to the soldiers who were dragging the maids away. "Stop."
The soldiers turned to him. "I want them fired. I don't want them to ever step foot in this villa again."
"Yes General!"
They proceeded to drag the crying maids away. I let out a sigh I didn't know I'd been holding. The day's events had been nothing short of crazy and all I wanted was to sleep.
"You need some rest." Haelor pointed out. "Let's take you to your room."
I didn't bother arguing and just followed him as he led me to my room. He stopped at the door just as I was about to go in.
"Is something wrong?"
He shook his head, still standing in the long hallway outside my door. "I'll be standing guard outside your room, Thea."
