They didn't waste any more time and booked it. I watched as they all left, their tails tucked between their legs.
Askhan looked pissed as he watched them disappear into the crowd. He turned to me, the look of anger in his eyes slowly dissipating.
"Are you good?" he asked.
I slowly nodded my head. "Pretty much."
He shook his head, fire still burning behind his eyes. "If these people dared laugh at you like this before, you would have bitten their throats a long time ago."
I remained silent, unable to muster what words to say. My gaze went to my hands. They looked really soft and somewhat…fragile.
I'd been in extremely poor health throughout the better part of last year. Sometimes, I couldn't even turn into a wolf without problems.
And then there was so much going on. I had to protect Emma while somehow keeping myself sane.
"I'm sorry," Askhan's eyes lowered just a little. "Did I offend you?"
I shook my head. "It's fine. I'm just going to go get myself a drink."
I didn't bother waiting for his reaction before I turned away. Keeping a smile on my face, I waved at some people in the crowd.
My acting skills were getting better now. I was walking around like there was absolutely nothing wrong.
I had to get away from everyone. So that was what I did. A breath left my lips when I rounded a corner.
I was finally alone. Away from all the noise that threatened to run me mad.
"Thea. Fancy seeing you here."
My blood ran cold. I turned to see some noble men staring at me. They must have somehow followed me here.
I'd recognize their voices any day. Marco, Varis and Camar. They'd tried pursuing me at some point but I hadn't given them the day back then.
Varis had snuck up behind me and covered my mouth with his hands. No matter how hard I screamed or tried to yell, it all came out muffled.
"Shut up and stay still. Let's have this little fun." Marco laughed, his yellowing teeth in display as he snuck his hand underneath my shirt.
My eyes widened as I tried to fight out of their grip all to no avail. Askhan and Haelor weren't here and they knew that. They wanted to use this as an opportunity.
I bit on Varis' hand and managed to push Marco away, backing up to the wall that left me with no escape.
"Stay back." I narrowed my eyes on them.
Varis scoffed, unzipping his trousers as he watched me with a predatory gleam.
"Bitch."
And just like that, they turned into wolves, their eyes glinting with lust. The last thing I remembered as I blinked was them pouncing on me.
