Finnian lowered his gaze, a faint smile touching his lips, though it didn't reach his eyes.
"From the Reed family in San Francisco? The construction magnates?"
Lucas nodded frantically. "Yes, yes, exactly."
Finnian fell silent.
His eyes drifted back to the slender figure beyond the glass. A dark, stormy intensity surged in his gaze before settling back into a cold calm.
No wonder he had run into her there yesterday.
She was Hudson's fiancée...
Lucas stood there until his legs ached, too terrified to speak, forced to just wait in agonizing suspense.
After what felt like an eternity, Finnian pulled his gaze away, picked up his teacup, and took a slow, deliberate sip.
"This plan is fine."
Lucas sagged with relief. "Yes, sir! I'll have the team finalize it immediately."
He turned to leave, but at the door, he couldn't resist glancing back.
Finnian was still on the sofa, spinning the teacup between his fingers, his eyes fixed on the window, lost in some dangerous thought.
Lucas shut the door quietly and let out a shaky breath.
The man was a nightmare to deal with.
...
Rehearsal ran until noon.
During the lunch break, Nora found a quiet corner, pulled out her phone, and made a call.
It was picked up almost immediately.
"Hello? Dr. Harrison? It's Nora..."
"Ms. Reed! What can I do for you?"
"Liam, could I ask you for a huge favor?"
