Madly Yours (Nora Reed) novel Chapter 124

Fifty grand.

If this deal fell through, it was going to physically hurt him.

Lucas gritted his teeth and hurried to block her path again. "Ms. Reed, please don't put me in a tough spot here. The sponsor made a special trip just for this. Just one meeting, that's all. It won't take more than a few minutes of your time..."

"Lucas."

A cold, piercing voice sliced through the air from behind.

Lucas whipped his head around. Leo was standing at the edge of the stage, microphone still in hand. His expression was dangerously blank, but his brown eyes radiated absolute ice.

"Do you have a problem with my manager?"

Lucas felt a shiver run down his spine under that intense glare. He let out a nervous laugh. "No, no problem at all! Just making small talk, just chatting."

Leo ignored him entirely, shifting his gaze to Nora. "Ms. Reed, come here for a second. There's something off about this track, and I need you to listen to it."

Nora nodded and made her way toward the stage.

Lucas stood rooted to the spot, wiping the cold sweat from his forehead as he watched them walk away.

Damn, Leo was fiercely protective of her, wasn't he?

And his fifty grand!

The cash was practically in his hands, and now it was gone.

...

Second-floor viewing suite.

Edmond stood by the window, watching Nora follow Leo onto the stage. The two of them were leaning close, talking in hushed tones, their body language undeniably intimate.

His face darkened instantly, his eyes flashing with a terrifying chill.

Lucas pushed the door open, looking thoroughly defeated. "Mr. Sterling, Ms. Reed... she refuses to come up."

Edmond didn't turn around. "Who was that guy just now? What's his relationship with Nora?"

"That's Leo..."

Lucas paused mid-sentence, suddenly confused. "Wait, Mr. Sterling, did you mix up the names? Her name is Jade..."

"What the hell are you talking about?"

Edmond scowled. He might not have met Jade Reed in person, but he had been with Nora for two years. Did this idiot really think he couldn't recognize his own fiancée?

Lucas looked bewildered and quickly pulled up the staff log on his tablet. "Mr. Sterling, I swear I'm not making it up. She really is registered as Jade."

Edmond glanced down. Sure enough, the name 'Jade Reed' was printed in stark black letters.

His frown deepened into a harsh crease.
