Marcus instinctively stood up. "Mr. Lancaster, Jade can handle it. Please, sit..."

"It's fine. I'd love to see the Reed family's wine cellar anyway."

Without waiting for an answer, Silas walked purposefully in Nora's direction.

Marcus opened his mouth to protest, but a sharp glare from Penelope silenced him.

Frowning deeply, he watched Nora and Silas disappear down the end of the hallway before lowering his voice. "What are you doing? Letting him be completely alone with Nora? Are you out of your mind?"

Penelope casually picked up her teacup and took a slow sip.

"What are you panicking for? It's not like Mr. Lancaster is going to eat her."

"But he's Hudson's brother..."

"Exactly. He's Hudson's brother, which is why we need to treat him like royalty."

Penelope set the cup down and shot him a pointed look. "We need him for the Westside project. If you offend him, the Reed family is truly finished."

Marcus opened his mouth but couldn't find the words to argue. His frown merely deepened.

Nora kept her eyes fixed on the floor, walking toward the cellar at a steady, measured pace.

She could feel his gaze burning into her back, heavy and predatory, like a slick snake slithering down her spine. It made her skin crawl.

The cellar was located at the very back of the villa. As they descended the stairs, the air grew damp and chilly. The dim yellow lighting stretched their shadows into long, overlapping silhouettes against the stone walls.

Nora picked up her pace, desperate to grab the wine and leave.

She didn't want to spend a single second longer with this man.

The cellar wasn't particularly large. Three of the walls were lined with wine racks holding various vintages of wine and liquor. The highly-prized Bordeaux bottles were kept on the highest shelf at the very back.

Nora walked over and stood on her tiptoes, reaching for the top bottle.

Just as her fingertips brushed the glass, she heard the soft rustle of footsteps right behind her.
