Hudson Lancaster was submerged in an ice bath.
The freezing water lapped at his chest, biting into his skin, but it did nothing to quell the suffocating wave of heat surging through his veins.
He leaned against the edge of the tub, resting his arms along the rim. Water trickled down the hard lines of his muscles, catching the harsh, clinical light overhead.
Hearing Nora's voice through the phone, his grip tightened around the device.
"Wait right there. I'm coming home," he ordered.
Hanging up, he rose from the icy depths. Water cascaded down the ridges of his abdomen, disappearing into the low V of his pelvis.
He grabbed a towel, dried off with a few rough swipes, and pulled on the robe draped over a nearby chair.
When he yanked the bathroom door open, Arthur was standing in the hallway. His assistant froze.
"Boss?"
Hudson didn't stop. He strode toward the dressing room, the belt of his robe tied loosely at his waist, leaving a broad expanse of his damp chest exposed.
"Did something happen?" Arthur hurried after him.
"Nora just called. She said there's a break-in at Cloudwater Estate."
Arthur's footsteps faltered.
A string of question marks fired off in his brain, and his first thought was: Is Bane dead?
How else could an intruder possibly breach the estate?
But even if the massive guard dog had been taken out, what about the dozens of other trained attack hounds?
Not to mention that the estate's security system was designed by the Lancaster Group's elite tech team. With military-grade infrared sensors, facial recognition, and twenty-four-hour patrols, a fly couldn't even buzz onto the property without being identified.
An intruder?
What kind of thief could possibly penetrate those defenses?
Arthur opened his mouth to point this out, but one look at Hudson's dark, predatory gaze made him swallow his words.
He hurried to keep pace, choosing his next words carefully.
"Boss, Dr. Harrison said you shouldn't go out tonight. Your condition..."
"Shut up."
Hudson cut him off and shoved open the dressing room door.
