The black Maybach glided smoothly into Cloudwater Estate.
Hudson leaned against the back seat, his fingers resting on his knees trembling slightly.
The violent rage churning in his chest hadn't entirely dissipated. The veins at his temples throbbed relentlessly, pounding a painful rhythm against his skull.
He reached into his jacket's inner pocket and pulled out a small black pill bottle.
Arthur caught sight of it in the rearview mirror. He saw his boss gripping the bottle, his knuckles turning white, the veins on the back of his hand bulging.
He frowned slightly but said nothing, his eyes returning to the road ahead.
Hudson twisted the cap off and shook two white pills into his palm.
He stared at the two pills for a couple of seconds, his jaw clenching tight, before tipping them back into the bottle.
He rolled down the window, letting the salty sea breeze of Azure Bay wash over him, scattering the faint scent of blood lingering on him.
He gripped the bottle, hesitating for just a second, before tossing it out the window.
The solid black bottle traced an arc through the air and vanished into the roadside bushes with a soft thud.
Watching this unfold in the rearview mirror, the tension in Arthur's shoulders eased a fraction.
But then his frown returned.
The boss's emotional turbulence today was triggered by that Sterling guy.
But at the core of it, it was because of Nora.
He had been with his boss for ten years, and he had never seen him lose control over a woman to this extent.
Looking at it now—
Nora was his boss's cure...
But she was also the trigger.
Arthur pressed his lips together, unsure whether this was a blessing or a curse.
...
Long after the black Maybach had disappeared into the distance, Edmond was still lying on the ground, gasping for air.
Ferris stumbled over to help him up, but Edmond pushed him away.
He propped himself up against the pavement, every inch of his body screaming in agony. Yet none of the physical pain could compare to the suffocating ache in his chest.
Every word Hudson had just spoken felt like a knife twisting into his heart.
He had thought Nora was just throwing a tantrum. He thought that as long as he came to coax her, she would come right back.
But Hudson was right.
