Madly Yours (Nora Reed) novel Chapter 186

Penelope pulled her into the house, chattering endlessly. "Why didn't you make him stay a little longer? Your father and I still had things to discuss with him."

"You'll have plenty of time for that later. The wedding is tomorrow, he's definitely busy."

Penelope waved her hand dismissively, dropping the subject. "Fine. Your father hasn't had your cooking in forever. Go help out in the kitchen and whip up a good spread."

Nora's footsteps faltered.

During her couple of weeks at Cloudwater Estate, she hadn't lifted a single finger.

A staff of over a dozen people took care of her every need, right down to handing her a glass of water. She didn't have to do a single chore.

Yet the second she stepped back into the Reed house, she was expected to cook a full meal for the whole family.

In the past, she never would have thought anything of it.

Over her years with the Reeds, she had grown completely accustomed to it.

Whatever Penelope demanded, she did without a second thought, never feeling wronged.

But now, with a glaring comparison in her mind, a suffocating knot formed in her chest.

"What are you standing around for? Go on."

Penelope was already turning to direct the maids. "Jade is coming back in a few days. Thoroughly clean her room and swap out all the bedding for fresh ones."

A few maids murmured their compliance and headed upstairs.

"And that cabinet over there! The dust in the corners is still visible, are you blind?"

As Penelope barked orders left and right, she turned back to see Nora still standing in the hallway. Her brow furrowed. "Nora? Why are you still standing there? The kitchen is waiting. Oh, and the top of the wardrobe in Jade's room is too high for me to reach. Go up there and wipe it down in a bit."

"Mom, what are you doing?"

Xavier Reed frowned, unable to stand it any longer. "My sister is getting married tomorrow, and you're making her climb all over the place. What if she falls and gets hurt?"

"How could she get hurt? It's just a quick wipe down," Penelope muttered defensively.

"Still no."

Xavier grabbed Nora's wrist. "Come on, Nora, let's go to my room and chat."

"This kid!"
